Chapter 0.5: xxx

Kiea

Arching my back to stretch, my arms raise upwards and back with a yawn. My breath released in relief. My stretch relived only part of the pressure built up in my spine from the last twelve hours of revising my biggest leadership project yet.

The one project to prove myself worthy or leading this colony to a thriving life on a planet. If it all goes to plan, within the three months we will contact earth and plan a landing party to ensure the betterment of this society.

A betterment where we are no longer forced to live in this spaceship that has housed my people for more than two thousand years.

But there's a drawback, this planet had nuclear warfare two hundred years ago, and is still recovering. The people left are at one another's throats, battling their physical differences as well as their healing planets radiation levels.

This is the water planet my kind has fought far too many wars over.

A war my colony lost a millennium ago, the war that split my kind into two colonies. One colony stayed on earth and another left- fleeing to the stars.

Then here we are, thousands of years later- trying to come back.

I stare out the window of my living quarters- in front of me is the water planet that's been occupying my thoughts for a decade. The stories I've read about the planet make my imagination flutter to life.

My hand presses on the glass as I wonder what it would be like to smell the natural air, feel the large pebbles of dirt or maybe sand between my toes, maybe visit a beach.

My body tingles with desperation of what it would feel like on a planet.

Its truly remarkable to me that I've spent ten years looking out the window of my quarters, begging the stars for just a glimpse of the carbon-based planet.

Begged the gods for a chance to meet a new person, see the blue atmosphere refraction of the thing they call 'the sky'. My eyes widened just thinking about it.

My alarm sounds, a small buzz of tunes play as my assistant V's voice plays overhead. "Kiea. We are now back in the Milky Way system." My mouth widens in glee as I place my body as flush as I can against my viewing window adjacent myself.

"Congratulations on the achievement, your highness." She adds on. "Thank you, V" I mumble, my emotions growing as I feel my heart in my throat.

With hopeful eyes, I look out at the one glass pane facing the small asteroid within earth's gravity, 'the moon', I recall they refer to it as in the texts I have been reading on my computers.

My hand is flat on the surface of the cold glass, feeling the icy chill of space. A smile graces my face as I look out at the stars. My time on this ship is running short and a rush of excitement fill my bones.
