"Okay, so I️ think here we would start by just using the Pythagorean theorem to find the length of the hypotenuse of triangle...Simon? Simon, are you even listening?" Clary asked in frustration, noticing that Simon's gaze was somewhere else and not his laptop screen.

Simon jumped slightly, alarmed by the sound of his own name bringing him back to the present from the moment that he had been replayed nonstop in his own head.

"Yeah, sorry, Pythagorean theorem, sounds good," Simon said.

Clary sighed, propping her elbows on her desk and resting her chin in her palms.

"Okay, what's on your mind?" Clary asked, deciding that her best friend was more important than math homework.

Simon shook his head.

"I️ just...I️ don't know what I️ did wrong. And he said it was 'for my own good'. What is that even supposed to me?" Simon asked.

Clary shrugged.

"I don't know. Maybe the dude's super screwed up. Maybe he's a secret serial killer and he's trying to fight his homicidal tendencies," Clary joked, trying her best to cheer Simon up.

Simon rolled his eyes, but chuckled just a bit. He then grew alarmed as he saw his friend's eyes widen in horror, her jaw dropping.

"What's wrong?" Simon asked.

Clary did not respond with words. Instead, she sent him a text saying that she thinks she saw something - or someone - move behind him.

Simon's entire body tensed at these words, and that was the last thing that Clary saw before his laptop shut and she found herself screaming out his name.

Raphael sighed when he went to answer his cell phone and saw that it was Simon calling. He denied the call before setting his phone aside.

It wasn't long, however, before he got a notification indicating that Simon left a voicemail. He knew he should just delete it, but he found himself instead clicking on it to listen.

Raphael almost dropped his phone when he heard Camille's voice instead of Simon's.

"Raphael, it's your sire. I️ don't appreciate you avoiding me. So, I️ thought we could negotiate. I️ have Simon with me, I️ hope you don't mind. I️ just figured that if you don't come home to the DuMort then maybe I️ could turn your little boyfriend here instead. Or just drain him, depending on if I'm feeling naughty or nice."

Camille's words made Raphael's blood boil. He didn't even take a moment to compose himself. He was so enraged that he went directly to the DuMort, feeling ready to kill Camille.

Raphael didn't bother knocking; he couldn't be bothered with niceties. Instead, he busted right in, breaking the lock in the process with his new vampire strength.

"Hello, my pet," Camille said, sitting up from one of the golden couches that was in the main room.

He saw that Simon was sitting there completely still and silent and figured that Camille must've encantoed him.

"Let Simon go," Raphael said, his voice low.

Camille simply laughed as if this entire thing were simply a game to her. She looked at Raphael up and down as Raphael tried to mask how uncomfortable he felt with this.

"I️ want your loyalty," Camille said.

She then flashed a devilish smirk before turning around to look at Simon.
