He stared at the picture frame in his hands

He stared at the picture frame in his hands. Marveling at the curves of her stomach, he cherished the moments of peace he had been given graciously.

He remembered the moment the picture had been taken. They were going to their first public event after finding such news. Alexei and Cat had spent the first few months locked up together, except for the occasional interruptions.

It had been heaven.

But then he remembered the horrible moments that followed after. He could still vividly remember being woken up to Cat's scared face, tears in her eyes and her hands covered with blood. He remembered having to rush to the hospital, being stuck in a tunnel vision and not seeing anything but the blood on his hands.

He vividly remember the doctor breaking the horrid news to them, he could still hear Cat's heartbreaking sobs and still could feel his heart shatter. It was a nightmare that never ended.

The miscarriage of their first child had shattered them. For months it felt like nothing would ever be right but slowly they healed and while they could never forget, they could at least look on to the future.

And then he remembered those two years where no matter how hard they tried, they couldn't get pregnant and it seemed like everyone else was getting pregnant. Every time one of their friends broke the news of pregnancy to them, he could still see the happiness but specks of sadness in Cats eyes, a mirror reflection of his.

And then he remembered the day Cat had excitedly called him to the bathroom, tears gushing down her face as she held a positive pregnancy stick. The doctor confirming it, and finally things fell in place.

Slowly Alexei set the picture down, it was one of his most cherished pictures. His beautiful wife and his beautiful first child, still in the stomach.

Alexei pushed his chair from his desk, gathering some files as he stood up when the door slammed open.

In came running a small bundle of joy, a bundle of excitement.

Mila Catherine Romanov.

Except she was crying, and Mila was the worst when she was crying.

Her shrill cry-scream rang throughout the office, making Alexei cringe.

"Daddy, Lessio called me ugly," she wailed, grabbing on to his pants and wiping her tears on to his pants. Alexei let out a deep sigh and pulled the little girl into his arms.

"успокойся, baby. Clam down," he whispered as he rubbed her back gently.

The brown haired, caramel brown eyed girl snuggled up to her father and wrapped her arms around his neck.

"Mila, you know better than to listen to your brother."

Usually Alexei was the bad cop, having to be more strict as Cat would always spoil the kids, melting when they snuggled or showed any affection to her. The devil kids sure knew their mother's weaknesses.
