Chapter 12

Rose

"But why does it have to be so hot here!" complained Madison

"Madi this place is near the equator" I snorted "and you wanted to go to Singapore"

"But Singapore is fab!" she protested

"I strongly agree with that statement" Kirsten said "Singapore is fab"

I rolled my eyes and pulled my luggage to the exit of the airport.

"So... Do we find a cab of what?" Madi asked "but I have absolutely no idea what people are saying around here. Kirsten what's mabuhay?"

"Er uh" Kisten flipped through a guidebook of the Philippines "wait, I'm looking"

"It's an expression of saying 'hello'" I said

"How'd d'you know?" Madison asked

"Half Filipino" I shrugged "I'm no pro at Tagalog but I can translate since you guys don't know"

"Eh" Madison shrugged as well

"C'mon girls let's just get to our hotel" Kirsten said getting in a taxi

"Saan po?" the taxi driver asked and Kirsten and Madi exchanged confused glances

"Sa Crown Plaza po. Katabi lang ng Robinsons Galleria" I replied closing the taxi door

"Rose could you please speak in English?" Madi said

The driver flashed Madison a toothy smile "American?"

She blushed "Uh, yes"

"You also American?" he asked Kirsten

Kirsten nodded.

I could tell he was honored to have Americans to ride his taxi but that he was also embarrassed of his bad English.

Then the driver looked at me "Rose Loyola am I right?"

I flushed a bright red "How did you know my name?"

He smiled "Your tita Candice is still here. We are of close friends"

"Oh" I said as the red faded from my cheeks

"Can we go now?" Madison asked impatiently "I'm not staying here any longer"

I rolled my eyes at her.

"Rose why are we staying in a hotel if your Aunt Candice is here?" Kirsten asked as Madison flopped down on the hotel bed

"We could stay at her place" Kirsten added a moment later

"My tita Candice didn't want my parents to go to America when I was three years old. She has some eternal grudge against me, my brother, and my dead parents I guess" I shrugged

"Guys I think we're forgetting one tiny thing about searching the Philippines for Tay" Madison interrupted

We both looked at her.

"The Philippines has 7,107 islands" Madi said "and Spring break ends in a week"

I had writer's block for a couple of weeks sorry.

Has anyone seen The Giver?

It's was amazing though Taylor's scenes only lasted like less 5 minutes in total like what why it should be longer.
