Sans groaned as he slumped his back against his chair, causing it to stagger back a bit from his weight as the ever large pile of documents were still on the table and was practically taunting him.
Wingdings Comic Sans, the heir to the throne of the Tale kingdom, a kingdom which is mostly popular for their healing materials and lack of an actual king.
He scratch his cheek before closing his eyes.
His late father has died a year ago while fighting in the war of the century or the war of roses, as people would call it and since people look down on the idea of a queen with no king, he was up for the throne and would be crowned king in just a few months.
Oh how he would fucking hate to think of the responsibilities and duties that would be thrown at him.
Sans yawned before lazily sitting up straight once again to pick up the document he had set down just a while ago.
*Knock Knock
Soft knocks where heard from his door as Sans glance over at it before speaking up.
"Come in."
The door creak open revealing a skeleton clad in black and red as they were standing by the door, a grin was stretch across their face as a gaping wide hole was on the side of their skull.
"My prince, your mother asks for your presence." The other said in a voice that was blank and almost lifeless as it held a sense of respect.
"Alright..." He sighed before standing up from his chair and then glancing over to the skeleton.
"You don't have to call me so formally, Horror." He chuckled as he stared at the other rather fondly.
Horror, The general of the Tale army and utmost one of Sans childhood friends, just rose a brow at him before scoffing.
"Yeah right."
"Sheesh, you couldn't call me by name but you can talk to me so rudely," Sans snickered. "Such a troublesome general."
"You're literally going to be the next king." Horror rolled their eyes at him.
"Still..." He hummed before walking up to the other and then placing a hand over their cheek. "You've known me since we were kids, lighten up a bit."
The other stops still to stare at him before shifting his gaze to the side.
"The queen is calling for you." Horror reminded. "She's in the study of your late father." The other added.
Sans shrugs as he let go of the other's cheek.
"Okay then, please escort me to her."
___
"...what?"
Sans said in pure disbelief as he stared at the woman who gave birth to him and had raised him to be who he is today.
"It's just a suggestion..." Arial said with a nervous smile. "Please don't think too much of it."
Sans rose a brow. "Mother, I don't think suggesting to your child that they should be betrothed than be crowned a king is going to not make them not think too much if it."
"The benefits in it is uncanny though, if two kingdoms merge as one, all of what is lost during the war would be back."
True, the war has lost them many men, resources and cause a lot of damage to the buildings in their little kingdom but still.. betrothal seriously?
"I'll just have to make ties with other kingdoms then with deals and not by marriage." He stated as he sat up from his seat.
Arial hummed in thought as she looks over at him. "So I see that betrothal is off the table?"
Well if all else fails, betrothal would be a great back up plan...
"I'll think of it," Sans gulps. "Now if you can excuse me, I still have to prepare to be king..."
He bowed to his mom in respect before turning his back and walking up to the door.
"Whatever you want, my dear." Arial stated.
He grab the handle of the door.
"But darling may I remind you that 'king' isn't exactly the right term..."
Sans stops still before glancing back at his mother who was grimly smiling at him.
"..."
"Now who's fault is that?"
He said before quickly getting out the room, not even getting to see his mother's reaction to what he said.
___
"Why are you following me again?"
Sans asked as he raised a brow at Horror who was walking beside him.
They were walking down the great halls of the kingdom, marble floors and white walls surrounded them as maids passed them.
"Since you're going to be king, many kingdoms who might have a thing against your father would pay assassins to kill you..." Horror said as a matter of fact. "As the general, I must keep you safe."
He snickered as he place a hand over his mouth. "So what? You're like my knight in shining armor?"
This cause the general to blush slightly as Horror grumbled. "Please never call me that..."
Sans chuckled before smiling up at the other. "Can I at least hold your hand as we walk?"
"What? Sans- my prince uh -- no." The other narrowed his eyes at him.
"Why not? My handsome knight?" He teased with a short laugh as Horror rolled his eye at him.
"I swear this war made you more carefree than it sharpening your senses." The other sighed.
"It did," He shifted his gaze to the side before sadly smiling. "But I also learned from him that not letting the past hunt you is what truly is living."
The echoes of laughter, memories that can never be relive and the smile of him was something he will never truly forget...
"..." Horror stared at him blankly before taking ahold of his hand which he realize had actually been shaking all along.
Sans let out a breath that he didn't know he was holding as he grips tightly on Horror's hand.
"I miss him..." He said in hushed whisper but the other heard him anyways.
"I do too..." Horror hummed as he gave his hand a firm squeeze in reassurance.
Sans just grinned.
___
I'll end it here cause I'm a lazy fuck-
The Sans in this story is a bit different from the Sans I usually portray, this Sans is lazy but still actively working and is much more of a tease/joker.
There's more to this story but like I'm lazy right now so yeah here have a prologue.
