She had laid out a blanket on the grass. She handed me chips, a sandwich, and water bottle as we sat on the blanket. "What? no soda." I joked. She laughed. She was wearing a blue and white striped dress. "No, because you need to get better, and the last thing you need is a messed up kidney." she said, pulling herself out a piled on sub, soda, and chips. As I was about to bite into my wholegrain sandwich she stopped my hand. "What?" I asked irritated, my taste buds ready to attack. "We have to say grace first." she said. I laughed.

"How could I forget?" I said, pretending I forgot, when it wasn't on my mind to begin with. "Alright, can you say grace?" she asked me. I widened my eyes. I didn't know what to say. I sat silent for a few seconds, until she opened one of her eyes, looking at me. "Oh, sorry...God who created all of this earth, thank you for the food...Amen." I prayed, proud of myself. She looked at me and bit into her sandwich. "Thank you." I said, swallowing a piece of my sandwich. "For what?" she asked. "For being here for me, for everything you're doing, thank you." I told her sincerely. She smiled at me, revealing her pearly white dentures.

I wanted to trace her face with my finger, her lips..her whole body in general. I smiled back at her. "You're welcome." she said. "I....I like this." I said, heat rising to my cheeks. "This?" she asked, pointing to the now setting sun that was leaving the rest of the sky in perfect pink and orange. I really meant how me and her were spending time together, I like being with her. "Y- yeah, that." I lied too smoothly. She smiled up at the sky. "Me too, it's very beautiful." she said softly. "You're beautiful." I said without thinking. My blunt mouth. She blushed. "Thank you." she whispered. "No, thank you...for being in my life." I said again, this time, regretting what I said, not knowing her response.

Unfortunately she didn't seem to mind. "You are such a charmer." she said, laughing. I blushed, shrugging my shoulders awkwardly. "I try." For the rest of the night we counted the stars.
