"Katia, why has Gianluca followed you?" I questioned her, raising from my seat and throwing my coat over one shoulder, getting ready to approach him.
"Fiore, please don't say anything!" Katia exclaimed, rushing after me as I left the coffee shop without listening to her.
"Gianluca Ginoble." I hissed, approaching him as he lent against a building's post. He turned, startled at me as I continued to walk to him.
"Fiore, it's good to see you again." Gianluca smiled, but I couldn't help what happened next.
I smacked him, right across his left cheek. The mark forming due to the massive impact my hand had to his face. The moment I saw him clench his cheek, and Katia rushing to him to clench to his arm. I looked down to my hand that hurt him. Feeling a presence behind me, Piero approached me and took my other hand in his. I pulled out of his grip as my hand's shook fiercely. I looked back up to Gianluca, Katia right next to him glaring at me. I tried to speak, but instead tears flowed down my face. That's when Gianluca and Katia's eyes became upset. Gianluca, as well as Piero and Katia, called out my name as I ran off in the other direction.
I walked as much as I could before my legs gave me and I was gasping for air against the railings that faced the sea. Staring out to the sunset, I yelled out my emotions as I had no control over the tears that were streaming down my face. When there was no tears left to get rid of, I grabbed a napkin I had saved in my coat pocket and dried away the remaining tears rolling down my face.
"Amore..." The whisper of Piero's voice came from behind me, and I flinched away from him, "It's alright, it's only me."
"I didn't mean to slap him..." I muttered, trying not to let the next round of tears flow out of my sore eyes.
"I know you didn't," Piero smiled softly, coming to hug me tight, "You got angry that Gianluca followed Katia. So you didn't know how to react and slapping him was the first thing you thought of."
"I'm such a fool..." I sobbed, resting my head against Piero's chest, "Can we go home?"
"Of course we can, amore." Piero chuckled, "And we can do what I planned. But first, I need you to ring Katia."
And so, I did what he told me to and our journey home. I placed my phone against my ear as the phone began to dial Katia's number. The phone rang... then rang again... and rang again... And towards the very last ring, I heard Katia's voice on the other side of the phone. She didn't sound angry, she sound upset. Almost like she'd been crying herself.
"Katia.." I coughed, trying to work up the courage to talk to her after what I did.
"Fiore, listen..." Katia sighed, her voice breaking mid-sentence, "There's no need to apologize. I understand why you did it."
"I do need to apologize though," I sobbed, "And just because I want to, because Piero told me I can't have my surprise if I didn't"
"I see." Katia's voice chuckled.
"Again, I'm sorry. I'll come see you and Gianluca tomorrow. I'll do whatever I can to make it up to him." I smiled.
When I hung up, Piero was looking at me from the corner of his eye as he drove down to our house. I looked over to him as he turned his attention back to the road, and pulled up into the drive way of our new house. I excited the car and approached to unlock the front door, I shook my coat off from around my shoulders and placed it on top of the coat hanger right behind the door. Slipping my shoes off, I approach upstairs as I loosened my hair down to my shoulders and walked into the bathroom with a giant yawn.
Looking at the mirror, I start to brush my teeth and ruffle my hair as I notice Piero acting shifty behind me. I continue to stare at him through the mirror, his glance looking towards me every now and again to see what I was doing. That's when as I spat down the sink drain, I felt him hug me from behind. Without any second thought, he spins me around and presses me against the bathroom sink. With a giggle escaping my lips, he kisses me deeply. Then I notice that he's placed the end of a artificial rose in his mouth.
"What are you doing" I smirked to him, trying to take the rose out of his mouth.
However, he wouldn't let me. He didn't even answer my question for a start. Backing away from me slowly, he started to unbutton his shirt. As I watched his every move, I felt my steps as I approached him every time he took a step back. He turned around, walking back towards the bedroom as he threw his shirt into the laundry basket. Kicking the door open, he entered. And reluctantly, I followed. Eagerly waiting for what he had to show me, I entered the bedroom.
Everything was beautifully decorated. Heart petals filling the bed, heart shaped balloons floating in two corners of the room. Candles lit at the bedside and a sweet romantic Italian song playing in the background ever so softly. I continued to walk further into our bedroom as Piero shut the door behind me. And before I knew it, he pressed me against the door.
"Happy Valentine's Day, amore" Piero smiled to me, and I couldn't help it but to smile back.
"So this is what you had planned for tonight?" I asked him again, wrapping my arms around his muscular shoulders.
"Of course, I wanted to show you how much you really mean to me." He chuckled, closing the distance between us and hooking one of my legs over his hip.
"Well then.." I blushed silently,
"You're just going to have to show me, Mr Barone."
"Oh, don't worry. I'm planning on it, Miss Lombardi."
