Before we knew it, the tour had already been completed in the first country we decided to go to. During that time, I and Piero made sure to enjoy each other's company not have an argument again.
And after what felt like so long, I was back home at my parent's house in Italy. Piero was with Gianluca and Ignazio preparing for Eurovision as I was sat in the study of my parent's house looking sheet music for songs that we decided to include during our tour. Then, there was a soft knock of the door. As I turned around to face the person at the door, a smile crept on my face as I saw...
"Amore." I smiled at Piero, noticing that he was carrying coffee cups and a paper bag, "I'm glad to see you're eating."
"I have had the most exhausting day listening to Ignazio tell his jokes." He chuckled, shutting the door behind him and sitting next to me, "Here, I got us something to eat before we make the long journey back to our house."
"Thank you," I smiled, taking a sip of the coffee, however to my surprise it wasn't coffee. It was my favourite caramel iced frappe.
"I thought you'd want your favourite." Piero smiled, holding my hand in his.
"I'm very surprised that you remember it all these years." I giggled, leaning ever so slightly into his warm touch.
"Of course I did." He replied, "How could I ever forget my amore's favourite drink."
"I thank you for not forgetting." I smiled, and as I leaned in for a kiss, my mother came rushing into the room.
The devastation in her eyes said it all, and without me fully thinking about my actions I leap from my chair as she speaks the most dreadful words from her mouth. That also caught Piero's attention, as we both ran with my mother out to the car. My mother jumped into the driver's seat as he drove at full speed down the streets of Venice.
As the car came to a near halt, I pushed the passenger door open with full force as I ran into the hospital's reception. Fumbling over my words as Piero came to my side, the nurse hurridly showed us the direction down a corridor to the ward we needed to be at. I pushed a private room door open to see nurses and doctors surrounding the patient. And knowing who the patient was broke my heart, as I walked over to the side of the bed, the nurses backing away to leave the room as me, Piero and my mother stood there. My mother was about to burst into tears, but my face was with full of shock as the patient's hand came to clasp in mine.
"Fiore..." My father muttered, his body so weak it was going to give in any minute.
"Dad... what happened?" I mumbled, trying to keep the tears in, but it was too late when Piero came to support me from behind.
"Oh just an old man passing on, I'll be fine..." He chuckled, shortly followed by a cough, "I think my time has finally come..."
"How can you say such a thing!?" I exclaimed, my tears raging down my swollen face, "You have so much to live for!"
"No.. my flower..." my father smiled, his weak, pale hand coming up to cup my chin, "I have done so many bad things in my life. I stole, I hurt my family. But the good thing about it... I had you... I met your boyfriend, and I saw you happier than you've ever been since I ruined it..."
"Ezio, could I ask you something?" Piero spoke, his composure still upon his face.
"What is it, son?" My father smiled, as they both locked hands tightly.
"If I asked for your blessing for me and Fiore right now. Would you give it?"
"Oh, I have waited for this day to come..." My father chuckled, "Piero Barone, of course, I give you my blessing... you're one of us..."
As I smiled at my father's response, it went silent.
His eyelids closed, his muscles went numb. Then it was all clear, the long noise coming from my father's machine. Realizing what it meant, I huddled into Piero's chest. His hands coming around to comfort me. My mother sobbing in the corner of the room. The room was only filled with the sobbing sounds of me and my mother...
This was the day of sadness...
revenge...
and a new day for a new me!
