Chapter 18 - Regret

Caleb Lemiere

I was just finished my meeting and I got into the lift to go up to my office. I looked at the numbers on the lift blankly until my secretary called me.

"Mr. Lemiere." I turned to my secretary and he's showing me his iPad screen. I took the iPad from him and checked what's going on. It was a news that one of our company in Canada got robbed. I gave the iPad back to him and called my brother immediately.

I got out the lift and checked if my family's here but none. I got into my office waiting for Isaac to pick up the phone but none.

"Caleb!" I turned to see my sister bursting into my office panting. She was running here and I was waiting for her to tel me what's going on.

"Isaac and dad already left so.. you don't need to go to Canada." Huh?

"Okay.. they're still on their way to the airport right?" I asked as I took my wallet and my suit to go but Athena gestured me not to go  by waving her hands.

"Don't go!" She stopped me by holding my body.

"Why? I lived in Canada for 5 years and I have the re-"

"Look!" She pointed at my table and there's an invitation sitting on my table. It was a white invitation and I automaticly took it to see. I turned to Athena and she gestured me to open the invitation.

Serena Cesantio's 29th birthday and it's today.

I looked at the invitation blankly and sighed. I opened the invitation to see the detail of where she will have her birthday at. Suddenly there's a small letter coming out from the invitation and I picked it up from the ground.

"It's been sitting there for days, Caleb. I can't believe that you didn't even see it." Athena said.

"I was busy."

"Nice.. will you go?" She asked and I turned to her completey don't know how to answer that question. Athena patted my arm and she left my office. I opened the small letter and sat down.

Dear Caleb,
I don't know that if you will see this invitation or this letter but I want to say sorry. Sorry for everything and I know it will be useless for me to say sorry a thousand times because I hurt you too in the past. We both hurt each other and I want to apologize for everything. About the second chance.. I don't know if it's still available or not but I want to give you answer but it's not available anymore.. you don't have to come.

I closed the letter and got up form my seat. I looked out the window and blankly looked at the streets down below. Suddenly my phone rang and it's my dad.

"Hey dad."

"Do you want to come to Canada with me?" He asked and I looked at the invitation.

"Yeah.. I'll see you in 30 minutes." I said and I put the invitation on my table. I put on my suit and walked out from my office. I pressed the lift button waiting for it to come so I can go down. I heard my secretary called my chauffer to come to the lobby.

"Mr. Lemiere, can we go to the 23rd floor first? There's a document that you need to check and sign because we need to submit it tonight." My secretary asked and I nodded. He got into the lift with me and pressed 23rd floor.

When I arrived at the 23rd floor, we walked out and I found Zion walking out from the meeting room.

"I heard about the news." He said and I nodded.

"I will go to Canada and check on it." I said and his eyes widen. He was going to say something but he shut his mouth immediately.

"Okay then.. See you." He patted my shoulder and I nodded. I went into the big office and one of the employee put the file in front of me. I took a quick look and I signed it. I told her to photocopy the file and put it on my desk and then I left the office. I went down to the lobby and go straight to the airport.

"Mr. Lemiere, you have Ms. Cesantio's birthday tonight. Should I book you a private jet to comeback later on?" He asked.

"No.. I will stay in Canada until tomorrow." I said.

"But.." I turned to him and he looked at me a little bit scared.

"What?"

"But she told me to remind you to go." He said in a really careful tone.

"I will stay in Canada, don't make me repeat myself." I hissed coldly and he shut his mouth. We left the office to go to the airport. I saw my dad and Isaac currently talking outside the private jet. I got out from the car and walked to them.

"Isaac told me that Serena is having her birthday party today. You know.. you don't need to go." My dad said and I shook my head.

"I'll go to Canada." I said and my dad looking at each other with Isaac.

"Are you sure?" Isaac asked and I nodded.

"Yeah." I said.

"Well.. if that's your choice then.." My dad said and he walked into the jet. Isaac followed him and I took a deep breath before getting into the plane.
