Chester was a dachshund that was taken to a shelter when his owners didn't want him anymore in his old age, He was alone and felt scared at the shelter because he didn't understand why he was there. Chester has arthritis in his two back legs and it was painful, he was put into the back for rescue only due to his illness, and no one was pulling him... i volunteered at the animal shelter at that time and spent time with him walking him and petting him and knew his time was almost up... he was about 8-9 years old and I felt I couldn't leave him there any longer ... my other rescue dog at the time was lonely and needed a friend and Chester seemed like the perfect fit. So I took him home and kept him until the old age of 12. My other dog didn't do well with his passing since they became best friends. I felt terrible knowing he was abandoned there at the shelter, he was the sweetest dog and loved to steal socks and his favourite toy was his squeaky hotdog toy, but overall he loved playing with his brother mason. They connected over their rough pasts. The shelter even told me when I adopted him that they were not even said to give him up or anything they wanted a younger dog... it is NOT ALRIGHT to ever give a dog away due to old age. But I am greatful I was able to meet and take care of this little guy to his golden years.
