About myself
I was a journalist for Australian Provincial Newspapers (APN) before working in public relations and marketing for both the public and private sectors both in Australia and overseas.
I have worked in a male dominated environments (eg. within the oil and gas industry) and in global management teams. I see more strong, powerful women leaders in these industries.
I had wonderful support from great mentors who helped push my career, where I was propelled into demanding roles at a young age. They taught me to focus on my goals and to not give up.
I'm also a romance author with two publishers who liked the strong women in my stories outside this platform, from sweet to erotic. You can find me on Amazon books. Just search: "Estelle Pettersen."
My education:
- Bachelor of Arts, with majors in Journalism and Psychology, from the University of Queensland, Australia.
- Master of Business Administration (MBA), with a concentration in Marketing, from Queensland University of Technology, Australia. I wrote chapter 12 in Leadership in the Australian Context: Case Studies in Leadership (Dalglish and Evans, 2007), a published non-fiction book edited by my supervisors during my graduate school days.
Why did I write this guide?
I wrote this guide to give others a helping hand with some tips, from what I've learned in my career. Whether you're fresh from high school or college, the workplace can seem daunting at the start.
Confidence is the key. "Can't" should be a word that you banish from your own, personal mental dictionary.
I hope this guide will help you feel empowered in meeting your challenges head on.
