It's been weeks since the food fight incident, Molly got dentention for a week and Lynn had to stay away from Molly. I feel like I have dug a deep hole for myself ever since I had gone to the deans office and told the dean about Molly. She has been glaring at me in the hallways, I feel like she is going to do something dispicably horrible to me. I then put in the combination to my locker and opened it to find a copy of the schools newspaper that I did not put there, I didn't even know our school had a newspaper. I took it out with my notebooks and began walking.
Several of the students were staring at me, then Marlene walked over. "Hey...um are you okay?"
"Why? What's going on?" I asked.
"Page 6 of the school newspaper..." Marlene said hesitantly.
I quickly flipped to the page, the title read:
Abused Child: Beatrice Prior
"Wait...what?" I was so confused.
"Read it," She said nervously, "This isn't the true copy of the school paper. Someone wrote a fake and made a ton of copies then stuck it in everyones locker."
I immediately knew who it was. Molly Atwood. I began reading the article.
"Another abused child at this school? Yes sources say that our mysteriously annoying Beatrice Prior, sophomore, gets beaten at home. 'At sleepovers she cries in her sleep and tells someone to stop' says our source-"
I stop reading. My eyes full of anger and tears.
"It's a gossip article some group of seniors let out every month...its anonymous so you can't really report it." Marlene says slowly.
I quickly crumble up the newspaper and toss it in the trashcan then storms away. I am going to find Molly and break her nose.
Then my gym aid, Four, stopped me. "Hey...why so angry?"
"Why so angry?!" I snapped, "Have you not read the newspaper?"
"Its not even a newspaper nobody cares for it." He says avoiding eye contact.
"Everyone reads it Four!" I say clenching my fists.
"Look that newspaper...half of it is a lie. Okay? Nobody is going to believe it."
"I don't care! I know who told them to write that article and I am going to kill her!" I could feel my face get hot and my eyes were welling with tears again.
"Well here's the thing, you confront her she will know its bothering you. So won't it just be easier to pretend none of this is hurting you?" He asked.
He obviously does not understand how painful this is.
I then take a deep breath, "Not really but...I'll try." I say and walk away to find Christina.
After school I go to the park where there is a large lake at the end of the trail, Christina and Will tag along too which I'm okay with. I could use people to talk to, they gathered a ton of the school newspapers and were ripping them and throwing them in the water.
"This will blow over soon enough," Christina says tearing the page into tiny pieces.
"Yeah yours wasn't the only story in here," Will said tossing his in the water and watching it get destroyed by the water.
"I just want to get her back...hard." I say ripping a page.
"What's the point? She will just do the same to you," Christina says.
"Well I want to get her back so hard she will never want to come near me again." I say clenching another newspaper in my hand.
"Molly is not the type of person to give up easily...she will ruin you worse," Christina says.
"Hey are we here to debate or destroy newspapers?" Will asks pulling one from the water and ripping it up then tossing it back in the lake. "How about we go to my house?" Will asks.
I'm not allowed to go to a boys house...but I do anyways but I won't stay long I tell myself.
I had no idea Will lived pretty far from me. He pointed out where Peter lived, "He's probably not even home, probably with Molly or Drew." He says unlocking the door, there is a girl who looks about 18 reading in the family room, she looks up her long blond hair is pinned back and she removes her reading glasses.
"Where were you?" She asks Will.
"The park, you met Christina already this is Tris. Tris this is my older sister Cara.
I smile and nod at her, Cara puts her book down and walks toward me, I'm suddenly afraid for some reason. She looks pretty scrawny but she is just as tall as Will.
"You were talking to Four earlier today werent you?" She asked.
"How do you know Four?" I asked.
She rolled her eyes, "Were in the same year. I have never seen him talk to anyone to be honest."
"Well I guess I'm not anyone," I replied.
Cara narrowed her eyes, "That is not what I meant." She then walked away to the kitchen to get something to eat.
Will then lead us to the family room, and sat on the one person couch and my and Christina sat on the couch across.
"I don't think she likes me..." I whispered.
"Who?" Will asked.
I them glanced at the kitchen where Cara was cutting an apple.
"Cara? Oh no she just...doesn't like questions to go unanswered." Will says glancing at the book Cara put down.
"But I didn't-"
"I'll ask her," Will then gets up to go to the kitchen.
"Why do you worry so much when someone doesn't like you?" Christina asks.
"It's not that...its just I'd like to know who and what I did..." I started.
"Who cares? You shouldn't change for others." Christina says picking up the book and examining it.
"Yeah I guess...but didn't it seem-"
I was interrupted by Will putting down a bowl of chips, "She said she doesn't know since she just met you."
"See? Quit being paranoid." Christina said picking up a chip.
Cara then returned for her book and glasses then stopped to look at me and was about to say something but instead went upstairs to her bedroom.
"Hey...I have an idea for a way you could get back at Molly..." Christina said smirking.
"Tell me." I said putting hope in her response.
"We will need toothpicks, hair dye, tape, and a stuffed animal," Christina said with a grin.
