Nico: Chapter 16

Nico

"There's something coming," Coach Hedge said.

"A monster?" Reyna asked.

"What else?" Coach Hedge asked.

Nico stayed in the shadows listening to them discuss battle strategies.

"They're coming now," Coach Hedge said narrowing his eyes at the forest. "Camp Half-Blood is only a couple miles away. Do you think you can shadow travel there Nico?"

Nico didn't answer but he got ready to shadow travel, Reyna and Coach Hedge got into position, Nico concentrated, and he felt the world disappearing around him.

"Oh, you're awake kid." Nico heard Coach Hedge say. "You passed out after you shadow traveled."

"Have the Romans attacked yet?" Nico asked.

"They're attacking." Coach Hedge snorted. "I wanted to be out there fighting but I was put in charge of protecting you, cupcake."

"I'm going out there." Nico said looking at Coach Hedge waiting for him to say no.

Coach Hedge snorted. "I don't care, go kick some monster butt."

"Why aren't you coming with me?" Nico asked.

The satyr glared at him, "you demigods. Always so nosy. It's none of your beeswax so mind your own business."

Nico stared at him and then raced outside. It was not pretty. About half of the cabins were in ruins. The Big House looked at the verge of collapse. Demigods were lying, blacked out, on the ground. Demigods with orange shirts. And Reyna was arguing with Octavian in the shadows, so the bloodthirsty teddy bear slaughterer was out of the battle.

Nico ran forward to help the remaining campers. Though there weren't many. Nico raised an army of the dead and had them swarm the Romans, but there were still too many. At least five hundred Romans were fighting. Some of them were middle-aged.

Nico slashed his sword here and there bringing down Roman warriors one by one. Soon Nico and his army began to overwhelm the Romans. The other campers had gone to help the injured.

As Nico was fighting Reyna yelled out, "stop!"

Nico lowered his weapon and so did everyone else.

"Why are you fighting when I told you not to come here?" Reyna demanded of Camp Jupiter.

One guy stepped up bravely, "Octavian said that we shouldn't show mercy, that the Greeks are evil. And I agree." A cheer came up from the crowd of Romans.

"One of their guys fired on our city!" Another one yelled.

"Silence!" Reyna shouted. "Eidolons were controlling him. You cannot blame the Greeks or something Gaea did!"

"How do you know for sure that Leo was being controlled by eidolons?" Octavian asked. "It could just be another one of the Greek's tricks, which you have fallen into."

Camp Jupiter yelled out their agreements.

"Silence!" Reyna shouted. "I am praetor and I demand that you all return to Camp Jupiter after we settle this peacefully!"

Octavian was about to say something back when a horrified yell came from inside Camp Half-Blood's infirmary.

Nico recognized that Coach Hedge had been the source of the yell immediately he ran into the infirmary with two of the Apollo kids at his tail.

Out of all the things he had seen: three-chested monsters, gold rising out of the ground whenever Hazel was near, and when Frank had gone from little Frank to big Frank (okay he hadn't actually seen it but he was there), he had never seen something like this: a cloud nymph lying on an infirmary bed about to have a kid and an overweight satyr, faun (whatever) running around in panic.

Two Apollo kids were running around and giving her medications. Nico sat down and looked away: he couldn't stand stuff like this.

After about thirty minutes it happened, Nico turned around and saw Mellie holding a little baby satyr. It was a nice moment until the Romans charged into the infirmary.
