“Oh my God,” Harry whispered as they heard the flat line of the heart monitor.
“No,” Louis whispered. He got up out of his seat and banged on the glass, yelling even though he couldn’t be heard. “Bring him back! I swear to God bring him back!”
“Louis-”
“Give me back my son!” Louis said as he crumpled to the ground.
“Daddy?” Zayn whimpered before tears ran down his face. Harry grabbed his son and held Louis at the same time while he looked down.
“Please,” he whispered as a prayer, hoping things would be better.
Down below, Dr. Emma had the paddles ready and knew what she had to do.
“I want the temperature down and ice here in 2 minutes. If I can’t revive him by then-” But Dr. Emma cut herself off. Instead she placed the paddles firmly on Liam’s chest and yelled “Clear!”
Liam’s whole body came off the table, but still no heartbeat.
“Come on little guy. Please. Clear!” Dr. Emma yelled again, but nothing.
“Doctor, maybe we should call-”
“You do nothing until I say so,” she barked at the other doctor. “Come on, you’re strong,” she whispered. “Clear!” She yelled, her voice cracking as she placed the paddles back on Liam’s chest.
It was silent, except for the heart monitor was the only noise that filled the room. The sobs from the galley couldn’t be heard, but Dr. Emma could feel their sorrow.
The other doctors in the room all looked down, melancholy filling the room, realizing that the child on the table before them had been lost.
Beep
Everyone in the OR snapped their heads up as they looked at the heart monitor before them. They thought they were hearing things, but they weren’t.
Beep
In the galley, Harry’s eyes widened as he shook Louis’ shoulder.
“Louis. Lou- please look!” Harry exclaimed.
Louis sniffled, but picked his head up weakly looking over at the OR, his own eyes widening.
Beep. Beep. Beep.
All of the doctor’s applauded and Dr. Emma felt a weight fly off of her chest. She had been holding her breath for a minute, and now that the boy was back she felt relieved.
“Okay, I’ve got the ice!” The attendee said as he busted through the door of the OR. He looked around and raised an eyebrow. “Bad timing doc?”
