Cowabunga CH.2

Katrina's POV

I could not sleep the entire night, I kept thinking of Raphael who gave me hot chills and a wide smile. Turning over for maybe the thousandth time I saw it was sunrise. I called in sick so I could go see the turtle brothers again. After dressing I left seeing it was 6 in the morning. New York City had not fully woken up yet, I stopped at a street store and got the boys soda after seeing so many empty can littered on the ground and myself a bagel.

I arrived at the same place Raphael met me yesterday and walked down the alley to find a manhole. Looking around I saw no one, I remembered seeing screens upon screens of streets of NYC; "Donnie, come up here and bring me down." Maybe that would work.

Donnie's POV

I didn't sleep a single minute, Leo had me keep watch of Katrina's phone records and the cameras in her apartment building. During the night I did research on her and even though I trusted her immediately her files showed that she was one to stick up for others after finding numerous reports of fighting. "Donnie get up here and bring me down." I jumped at the sound of her voice, switching cameras I saw she was standing above the manhole that led to our lair with 3 grocery bags.

"Is that Katrina?" Raphael popped his head in the doorway to the lab, "Yea I'll be right back she asked me to bring her down." His smiled faded, "Why would she ask you?" "Ask her yourself when she gets here." Why is he up so early anyway?

Once I got surface side I pulled Katrina down quickly. "Took you long enough. How are you guys feeling?" She asked walking by my side. "Haven't slept so I feel horrible." She glared sideways at me, "Why didn't you sleep? Did they have you spying on me?" "W-what? N-no- yea." She laughed as I opened the door for her. Raphael was standing there looking grumpy as ever.

"Why'd you ask him to get you and not me?" Katrina's smile dropped, "I knew he'd be watching the cameras, I'm sorry Raphael it won't happen again." Why was Raph so mad at her? I shook my head and left the two alone so I could watch for foot soldiers.

Raphael's POV

I immediately regretted nearly yelling at Katrina, once Don left for his lab I pulled her into my arms. "I'm sorry." I heard her giggle, it vibrated on my chest. I finally realized what I was doing, I let her tiny body go. I looked down and saw she had grocery bags, she explained what was in them as I took them into my own hands, "I brought soda. I didn't know what you guys would like so I got my favorites." "Which are?" "Dr.Pepper, Vanilla Coke, and Orange Crush."

"Did someone say orange crush?" Mikey came running out, "Yea I got you guys some soda but you can't drink it till the end of the day." "WHY?!" "Don't you dare yell at her." Before I could smack my brother Katrina grabbed my hand, "I just need to be 100% sure you guys are no longer sick. I'm sorry Michelangelo." Mikey nodded and went to play video games, "What's all the noise about?" Leo walked out with Master. Katrina bowed, "Excuse me Master Splinter for my unexpected visit." "There is no need to apologize you are always welcome to our home."

Splinter and Katrina kept talking when Leo grabbed my arm, "Raphael can I speak with you?" "Um sure." I followed Leo into his room, "What is it?" "Be careful okay?" I snorted, "Thanks for the concern big bro."

Katrina's POV

I watched Mikey play video games waiting for Raphael and Leonardo to finish talking. "So you and Raph have the hots for each other?" Mikey asked I couldn't help but grin. "Get the rifle, it kills them faster and there's more ammo on the ground for it." I answered avoiding the question altogether.

Raph sat next to me after a few minutes. "Everything alright?" He nodded staring at the TV. Everyone but Leo was now watching Mikey lose at Call of Duty. "Give it here." I took the control and began to play. "What you're a girl. You can't beat my mad skills."

"Just watch, don't be super far away with certain weapons they don't work as well and with lots of enemies use a high ammo count weapon so you won't be off guard for long." After a long silence, I paused, "Do you guys know how to shoot a gun?" "Ninjas don't use guns." Leo had finally joined in while answering me, "Do you?" Donnie asked, "Yes, had to know I can't fight I'm too small."

"No one is too small," Splinter told me, "You have to realize you guys have like super powers I'm just a regular human. I don't have the speed or agility". I unpaused the game, "Okay Mikey you can drink your soda now." All I saw after saying that was multiple blurs of green. Even Splinter went to get a drink.

I yawned trying to cover it, "Are you tired?" When Donnie asked that everyone had their eyes glued to me. "No, I'm okay." "Don't lie to Don he knows everything." Mikey whispered in my ear I covered my mouth trying to keep from laughing.

Raphael's POV

"Guy I'm fine." I knew she was lying, she gave a pleading look at me. I mouthed, 'Drop it' to Donnie and he did. I brought Katrina an orange crush before Mikey could get to it. "Thank you." "So why didn't you sleep last night?" I said low enough so my brothers wouldn't hear. "Starts with y and ends with u." I was confused then realized she must've meant I was on her mind. I chuckled and she punched me. "You are weak." Katrina rolled her eyes and everyone sat back down. "Here Mikey." She handed the controller to back to him and then laid her head on my shoulder. I wrapped my arm around her and she quickly fell asleep.

Some beeping came from Donnie's lab, he ran in then ran right back out. "Foot soldiers in the subway." I looked at Katrina, picking her up I ran her into my room and sat her on my bed.

The entire fight I tried to stay calm, I felt anger when thoughts of the foot capturing Katrina crossed my mind. I had just met this girl why was I being so defensive about her already? Eventually, they retreated and the whole way home I got an ear full of yelling from Leo. "Don't worry about me messing up your plans anymore, I'll leave as soon as I can." "Whoa, the peace has been broken once again."

"Shut up Mikey."

Katrina's POV

I sat up yawning, looking around I was in a room, probably Raphael's. His bed was sunken in and stiff, I stood to look around. He had thousands of magazines of weapons for ninjas, some mail in coupons were missing as well. I heard yelling and rushed back into the bed. "Why can't you just listen to me for once?!" "You're never right!" "You listen to ME, I'M the leader." Mikey interrupted their screaming match, "Dudes chill we scared them off, that's all that matters." "I'm going to my room. I can't deal with this." I shut my eyes and heard the door open then slam shut.

Opening my eyes again I saw Raph pacing, he turned to me and looked away. "Raph." He sat on his bed next to me, "I can't stand him!" "Whatever happened it's okay." "It's not okay Katrina! They always think I'm trying to mess things up when I'm only trying to protect them." He stood again pacing once more, "Have you tried to tell them that?" He stopped, "No." "Then how would they know your true intentions?" "Yea I guess you're right." He sat down again, "They're trying to watch your back as much as you watch theirs. They're your family. Don't push them away because you're only given one in your life."

Leo's POV

I still didn't trust Katrina even after hearing her calm Raph down, the walls were very thin. "Give her a chance Leo." Donnie said from his lab, "What makes you trust her so much?" "Because she has a bad past and only wants to make things right." "What do you mean she has a bad past?" I walked into his lab confused, he handed me a folder. "I knew you wouldn't trust her so I printed this out. Look at that and you'll see she really is a good person."

I took the folder into my room and read it, she had gotten into multiple fights for defending others and taking the fall for it. I guess she had a change of mind she began college and graduated early and immediately moved to New York City to start working. At least a fourth of her paychecks went to pay for women running from abuse who needed money. She knew American sign language and Spanish, she didn't list her family. 'I guess that's why she told Raph not to push family away.'

Raph opened the door to my room and I hid the folder under my pillow, "Sorry Leo." "That's a first." "What?" "You apologizing." "Just accept it." I smiled as he walked right back out. I followed him and saw Katrina pacing while talking on a phone. "Jayla calm down I'll be there in 15." After hanging up the phone she turned to us, "I have to go. My best friend has chemo today. I'm sorry." I saw her eyes water and she ran out, Raph was about to go after her.

"Don't Raph she needs to be alone." Master spoke patting his back.
