Chapter 3

When Emma gets home she calls Marco to check up on him and to tell him that she fixed everything at the salon. Then she called her friend Ruby. "Rubes. You will not believe who I have a date with tonight".  "Ems please don't make me guess, I've had a long hard day. Just tell me".  "It's Regina Rubes. Can you believe it?"  "No way. How did that happen?"  "That job I had to do for Marco ended up being at Reginas sisters shop. She came in while I was working. Zelena said they had tickets to the movies tonight but she couldn't go, so she suggested that I take Regina as a thank you for helping her with those idiots from earlier".   "Are you sure it's a date Em? You just said it was a thank you. It's not like she asked you out or anything".  "Fuck Rubes. Thanks for bursting my bubble". "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. You are still going out with her, so that's something".  "Ok. I have to go get ready now. I'll talk to you later". Emma hung up before Ruby could say anything else. She was right though, Emma thought. No one said it was a date. Emma took a shower and got dressed in a black pair of jeans an a green button down shirt. She stopped at the florist on the way to Reginas house. She did want to get her a big bouquet of flowers but with Ruby reminding her it wasn't a date she decided to just get her 3 pretty carnations. A red, a pink and a purple one. She didn't want to show up at Regina's empty handed. She pulls up to the house and walks to the door. She takes a breath before she knocks. When Regina opens the door she smiles. "Hello Emma. I'm glad your here. Would you like to come in for a moment?"  "Sure. Thank you. Here. These are for you". Emma says as she walks through the doorway. "Thank you. You didn't have to do that".  "It's ok. I would have felt strange showing up empty handed".  "Would you follow me into the kitchen so I can put them in some water?"  Emma nods and walks behind Regina. "You have a nice home Regina".  "Thank you. It's been in my family for years. There we go". She says as she sets the small vase down on the kitchen island. "They are very pretty Emma. Thank you".  "Your welcome". Regina looks at her watch. "We should probably go now so we can get there on time". "Ok". They walk out to Emma's car and she opens the door for Regina. She smiles and gets in. When they get to the movie theater she opens her door again. Regina likes the way Emma is treating her. She's opening every door and she paid for all the snacks and drinks. When they get to their seats they still have a few minutes before the movie starts so they talked a little, but once it started they of course got quiet. Halfway through the movie there was a scary part and Regina grabbed on to Emma's hand and she held it tight. When she couldn't bare to look anymore she leans in and hid her face behind Emma shoulder. Emma loves the feeling of everything happening right now. When the scene ended she told Regina it was ok to look again and she did, but she didn't take her hand off of Emma's and it stayed there till the movie ended. When they got back in Emma's car she says. "Thanks for inviting me Regina. I've had a really nice time". "Your welcome. I'm having a nice time too. If you don't have anything else to do tonight maybe we could go for a drink or something".  "Sure Regina. I'd like that a lot". Emma starts the car and drives over to Aesop's Table. "It's quiet here for a Saturday night. All the trouble makers must be over at The Rabbit Hole tonight". Emma said making Regina laugh. "Well I'm glad we came here then". They sit at the bar and Emma orders a beer and Regina has an apple martini. They tell each other a little about themselves. Regina owns a Real estate company here in town, and Emma said how she loves working for Marco. When Emma spoke about how much she has learned over the years and how she likes to fix things and make new furniture out of something as simple as a piece of wood, Regina could see that she meant every word. "Is this something you always wanted to do Emma?"  "No. I had no idea what I wanted to be. I was a teenage trouble maker, one day I stole a car and got arrested. Luckily I only got a fine and community service and that's how I ended up working for Marco. He taught me how to have patience and how to concentrate. I guess looking back now I was doing all those bad things because I was bored". "Wow Emma. That's really great how you were able to turn your whole life around at such a young age". Emma smiles. "So how about you Regina any terrible teen stories to share?"  They both laugh at the question. "Oh. I don't know". She says as she blushes. "Ok I won't push". Emma says as she takes sip of her beer. "Ok. Fine. When I was 16, I snuck out of the house. I drove to the airport and jumped on a plane to Las Vegas where I spent the weekend playing high stakes poker in a private suite".  "You did that at 16. How did you even get in there being underage?"  "It wasn't really a legal game. I used to play on line a lot and occasionally we would meet up to play and this time it was in Vegas".  "Wow. That's awesome. Did you get caught?"  "Nope. My parents were off in Europe on a vacation or something. I made it home before they even knew I was gone". Emma laughs. "That's the best Regina. Did you win?"  "I finished 3rd and I got a 250 thousand dollar prize". "Holy shit. What were the the other prizes?"   "Well it was 500 thousand for 2nd and 1 million for 1st".  "Excuse me ladies it's last call. Would you like another one?"  The bartender asks. Regina and Emma look at each and nod. They have one more drink together then Regina pays the tab. She had to argue Emma over it but she wasn't going to back down. When they get back to Regina's house Emma walks her to the door. "Thank you for letting me have Zelena's ticket to the movies. I really had a great time Regina".  "I did too Emma. Would you like to do something together again?"  "Yes. I would totally love to. Just name the time and place". Regina laughs a little and says. "How about here, tomorrow. It's going to be a beautiful day. We could enjoy an early dinner on my back patio".  "I'd really like that".  "Great, is 3 o'clock ok?"  "3 o'clock is perfect. Thanks again for tonight". They both smile at each other and Emma leans in and kisses Regina's cheek. "Good night Regina". "Good night Emma". She opens her door and walks in. She smiles at Emma one more time and she closes the door.
