Chapter 16

Emma sits in the living room watching tv as Regina is in the kitchen making dinner for them. Emma wanted to help but got a firm no. Regina said she wanted to make a special dinner for Emma tonight, so she's not allowed in there. "Babe, I'm bored".  "I'm almost done dear". Emma huffs out. 5 minutes later she gets up and walks toward the kitchen. "Emma Swan stop right there. Do not come in this kitchen. "But I'm bored and I miss you".  "And I'll be finished in a few minutes". Emma huffs out again. "Well, can I at least have something to drink?"  "Don't come in, but what would you like, water, wine a beer?"   "A beer would be good". Regina takes one out of the refrigerator and meets Emma in the hall to give it to her. "Here you are my love". She says as she gives her a kiss. "Now please go sit down and I'll be right out". Emma pulls her into another kiss. "Hurry up babe". Regina smiles and walks back into the kitchen. 20 minutes later Regina is done and the dinner is in the oven. She goes out and sits down next to Emma. Emma leans in and kisses her. "I've missed you babe. I don't like it when your not around". Regina laughs. "I was only in the kitchen Emma". "I know and I couldn't see you. I like seeing you. It makes me happy". She says with a smile making Regina blush. "You make me happy as well my love". After a few minutes of silence Regina asks. "Emma was everything really ok at the jewelry shop earlier?" "Ya babe, why do you ask?"  "Well you had already signed the credit card slip before I left to use the bathroom, why did you have to sign it again?"  "I told you it was like a paper jam or something". Regina sits up a bit. "Emma you already had your copy in your pocket. Did you have to use 2 credit cards to pay for our rings?"  "No babe. Everything was fine I swear". She says and gives Regina a kiss. "Why do I feel your holding something from me. Were the rings to expensive? Emma I don't need some fancy ring. I just need you". "Regina. The rings were not to expensive and I did not have to pay for it on 2 different cards. I didn't want to tell you yet, but I bought something else. I wanted it to be a surprise. I guess it kinda still is". Emma stands up then goes down on one knee. She pulls a small box from her pocket. "I wanted to make it official. So when you went to the bathroom I saw what I wanted and I quickly got it. I was signing the receipt for this". She holds up the box. "So just to make it official, Regina Mills will you marry me?"  She opens the box. "Oh my god Emma. This is gorgeous, but I no can't accept this. I know this is way to expensive. I told you I don't need something like this". Emma gets up from her kneeling position and sits on the couch. Her happy feelings deflated. She thought Regina would be excited, but she just said no. "I'm sorry Gina. I guess I made a mistake. I thought you would like this". She closes the box and tosses it on the coffee table. "I'll take it back tomorrow". She looks at her watch and says. "Since I still have time, I'm gonna to take a quick shower before dinner ok?"  She gives Regina a kiss and stands up. As she's walking away Regina stops her. "Emma wait please. I'm sorry. Please don't be upset".  "Babe. It's just a ring. Don't worry about it. I can take it back, no big deal". She turns to walk away again and runs up the stairs. Regina picks up the ring box and opens it. "This is so gorgeous". She takes the ring out and sees the price tag still tied to the bottom of the ring. "Oh my gosh. $ 2700 dollars. What was she thinking. She must have spent everything she had". She hears the oven timer and she gets up to check on dinner. She made one of Emma's favorites, baked macaroni and cheese with ritz crackers crushed on top. She took it out if the oven and put in the garlic bread sticks to go with it. It should only take about 5 minutes. As she's setting the timer, she hears a loud bang that came from upstairs. "Oh no Emma". She quickly runs upstairs knowing Emma is in the shower. She walks in the bathroom. "Emma sweetheart are you ok. I heard a loud noise. Did you fall?"  "No babe. I'm sorry. I dropped the big bottle of shampoo. Sorry if it scared you".  "So your ok?"  "Yes Regina I'm just fine". "Oh thank god. I just took the dinner out of the oven dear".  "Ok. I'm almost done. I'll be right down".  Regina goes back downstairs and Emma shuts off the water. She looks down at her hand that hurts and is bright red. "Shit". She grabs the towel to dry off, trying to be very careful of her hand. She gets dressed and meets Regina in the dinning room, but she's not there. "Gina?"  "I'm in the living room dear". She walks in and sees 2 dinner plates, garlic bread sticks, a salad and an ice cold beer. "We're having dinner in here tonight?"  "Sure why not?  We can watch some tv while we eat".  "Ok. This looks great babe. Thank you". Of course the dinner is delicious. Emma ate 2 plates full of mac and cheese, plus a few bread sticks. Emma finally puts her fork down and leans back on the couch. "Oh man. I'm so full. I can't move".  "I guess that means you liked it". She shakes her head no. "I fucking loved it. I want more, but I've got no where to put it". She says as she rubs her belly. Regina chuckles a bit. "I'm glad you loved it dear. I'll start cleaning up". She stacks all the empty plates on top of one another, before she could pick them up Emma grabbed them. "I've got these babe. You pick up the lighter things". Regina smiles as Emma walks into the kitchen. Emma was loading the dishwasher as Regina started to put away the leftovers. When everything was done they met in the middle of the kitchen. Regina put her arms around Emma's neck and gave her a kiss. "Thank for helping me clean up my love".  "It was no problem. Thank you for making me that wonderful meal". They kiss again. "How about we watch a movie dear?"  "Sure babe". Regina turns and begins to walk. She takes hold of Emma's hand and she flinches and groans a bit. "What's wrong?"  "It's nothing. I just banged my hand that's all". "Let me see it dear".  "It's fine Gina. Let's go watch...ouch". Emma says as Regina grabbed her hand. "Emma. Oh my god. What the hell happened. It's all red and swollen?"   "I told you it's fine. I accidentally hit it against the door knob as I was getting a towel". "I'll get you some ice". "I'm fine Gina. I doesn't bother me that much".   "Emma it's swollen, you need ice so the swelling will go down".  "Fine Regina. I'll be in the living room". Regina gets an icepack and walks in to Emma changing channels. She comes across the Boston Red Sox game and leaves it on that channel. "Here you are dear".  "Thanks". She puts the ice pack on her hand and took a few gulps of her beer. "I thought we were going to watch a movie?"  Emma picks up the remote control and hands it to Regina. "I'm not really in the mood for a movie. You can watch one, I'll go in the den and watch the game". She leans over to kiss Reginas cheek and gets up to leave. "Emma please talk to me".  "What did you want to talk about?"  "I know your upset Emma. Ever since I told you that the ring was to much you've barely looked at me".  "It just a ring Regina. You don't want it so I'm taking it back. It's not a bid deal. Let's not let this turn into a thing".  "It already has. What really happened to your hand".  "Oh come on Regina. Will you just let this go. I'm going to watch the game ok?"  She turns to leave. "No it's not ok. What was that big bang I heard when you were in the shower? Did you punch the wall Emma?"  "Gina please let this go". "Emma did you punch".  "YES I DID". Emma yells interrupting Regina. "Is that want you wanna hear?  I was angry and I punched a wall like a fucking idiot. Now can I go watch the fucking game please?"   "Fine. Just go Emma, and take your fucking ring with you and take these back to while your at it. I don't want these wedding bands either. Not knowing what they come with". She throws the 2 ring boxes at Emma. She picks them up and walks to Regina. "And what is it that they come with Regina?"  "Nothing. Just go watch your damn game Emma".  "Not till you tell me. What do these rings come with? Come on Regina say it. Are you to ashamed to tell me that you changed your mind?  You don't want these rings because they came from me. Someone who doesn't have a lot of money, someone who could never live up to your standards. Ya the ring cost a lot, but I really thought you would have liked it. I'm sorry I couldn't spend 50 thousand dollars on an engagement ring, but I thought maybe, just maybe this might be good enough. But it's not and I'm not. I'm sorry". Emma turns around and goes upstairs. Regina is just standing there crying. She thinks. "What the hell just happened?"  A few minutes later she hears Emma coming downstairs and she's dressed. "Emma where are you going?"  "I'm going out". She picks up her keys off the table and slams the door on the way out.
