"I want blue roses, instead of red. Red is too cliche for me. What do you think Jack?" She glanced up at him.
"Whatever you want, dear." He replied with his usual answer. She rolled her eyes and told the florist blue as her final answer. It had been another four weeks since they found out about the pregnancy. Sams was just beginning to show and they couldn't have been happier. She was waiting until the week before the wedding to pick out a dress so no alterations had to be made. It was only a month until the big day. Jack was nervous and Sam wanted to elope but they both decided this is what they wanted. The last thing they had to do was write their vowels. Everything else was finished.
"Wanna go out for lunch?" He asked Sam as they drove down Main Street in his Suburban.
"That sounds great. I have been starving for Mexican." She replied with great enthusiasm. He snickered at the thought of how long it had been since he thought about cravings.
"Mexican it is, then." He grabbed her lonely hand which rested on the center console and squeezed it. He didn't let go. Sam didn't respond but he could feel her emotions, even though she was quiet. Sam stared out the window with her fist against her chin. Still holding her hand he said, "I love you Sam. I always have."
"Can I confess something to you?" She turned her head as she asked.
"Of course." He replied.
"I dated Pete to make you jealous." You could see the remorse she had for what she did. Jack didn't care but he wanted her to know the truth.
"It worked." Was all he said because he knew what she had been doing. Telling Pete that she was having a baby with Jack was not a pleasant conversation. They had broken up a month before but she still told him. He said he was happy for her, but she could hear the jealousy in his voice. Jacks phone rang.
"This is Jack....mmmhhm...Alright, I will tell major Carter and be right there." He hung the phone up and smiled. "Guess whose finally decided to show up?" He said.
"Dad!" Sam exclaimed.
"He just arrived. It's amazing how long it takes for him to get away from blowing up all them snakes." Sam was beaming with excitement. She had recently started to glow, and to Jack, she looked perfect.
They pulled into the SGC about 10 minutes later. Sam jumped out of the car and ran to the base. Jack sprinted behind closely. Jacob was waiting in the infirmary for them while Janet poked and prodded him. He stood when he saw Sam.
"Samantha! You look gorgeous!" She made a nervous chuckle and hugged her dad,"Hi Jack, nice to see ya." Jacob shook Jacks hand.
"So, I'm dying to know. No one will tell me why you asked me to come! They said YOU have to tell me. Are you getting promoted again?" He asked.
"No, it's actually two things and not even close to getting promoted, dad." She smiled at Jack.
"Well, get on with it!" He motioned.
"Jack and I are getting married next month, dad." He took a step back. A shocked look crossed his face.
"That's illegal. Isn't it?" Jacob said. He didn't seem happy at all, instead irritated.
"It's not illegal because I retired and came back as a consultant. Perfectly legal." Jack said. Jacob nodded with approval and smiled.
"Then we must celebrate! To the bar! Drinks are on Selmac!" Jacob shouted.
"Thanks dad but we have a second part to the news" She looked to Jack. "You might want to sit down for this one." She said. Jacob sat down on the bed behind him. He looked from Jack to Sam nervously.
"I'm pregnant, dad." She placed her hand on her stomach and looked down. Then she looked to her dad whose jaw had dropped to the floor.
"With who? Pete! How dare he leave you! Why I outta..." Jack, who had been quiet, interrupted.
"I did! It was me. It's my baby." He waved his hand toward Jacob. Deep down he was hoping he wouldn't launch across the room and kill him.
"Yours? You got my daughter pregnant!" Jacob made a fist and waited angrily for an explanation.
"Dad. Stop, don't get mad. He decided to retire so that we could be together. The baby happened...shortly after. We were engaged the same day. Four weeks later, we found out we were going to be parents." Jacobs shoulders relaxed and he started to smile again.
"Well, that makes me a whole lot happier." Jacob replied sarcastically as he stood up and left the infirmary. Sam and Jack looked at each other and shrugged.
"I guess that went better than expected." Jack commented. He was actually hoping that Jacob would be more excited and hug his daughter, but he didn't say that.
"Yeah, I guess so." Sam replied, head hung low.
"Oh, Carter," he pulled her into a hug where she sobbed, " Maybe Selmac will talk some sense into him. Plus, it was all just a big surprise. He wasn't here an hour and we dumped news that most people drag out into years, in minutes. Let him be for a while." She pulled away and dried her tears.
"I'm sorry. I've felt very very emotional lately." She pulled up her shirt to wipe her eyes. Dark streak marks from her mascara shown on the light blue tee shirt that hid her curves. Jack put his arm around her.
"Come on. Let's go get that Mexican food you were looking foreword to." Jack said.
"I'm dying for a chicken enchilada with guacamole." The tears stopped and Sam smiled.
