Hot...burning....God, I was sweating. My eyes opened and the first thing I saw was the TV was on and the lights were off.
I blinked groggily and looked at the window to the right of me. It looked like it was still, at least, the afternoon? Maybe? It wasn't dark yet. Had I slept all day? Had I barely slept at all?
I looked down and saw Mia's head resting on my chest. One of her legs was intertwined with mine and her body was practically on me.
Aww..how cute.
I tried to sit up a little without waking Mia up. I managed to get our legs apart but when I moved her head, she started to stir.
I froze as she mumbled something then fluttered her eyes open. She looked blankly at my shoulder for a moment before trailing to my face and she jumped and pushed herself off my chest.
"Um, sorry." I mumbled. "I didn't mean to wake, or startle, you."
She grabs her head and frowns, sittings on her legs. "No, sorry I uh-" she stopped her sentence and sighed and looked at me. We sat in silence for a moment before I fully sat up.
"I was just going to take a shower." I say. "I feel like shit."
"Understandable." she rubbed her eyes and looked at the TV. "Do you know how long we've been asleep?"
"No."
"Ugh, okay. Go take a shower then."
I get up and stumble around the cabin before finding the bathroom. I shut the door and look myself in the mirror. The new bruise on my chin was starting to heal faster than my others. The other bruises were almost gone. The one around my neck was already yellow and fading, and the one on my cheek still had a bit of red in it but it was fading too.
under my eyes were dark circles and my facial hair had gotten thicker.
I wonder how disgusted Mia is with me now.
I took off my bandage and looked down at my bullet wound and saw how discolored it was. It surely was infected.
I get in the shower, making sure the water is nice and hot. I wash my body from all the events that have happened. The water felt so nice cascading down my skin, through my hair. It's been a while since I've showered properly.
When I get out, I just felt better already, though something still didn't settle in my stomach well. I dried myself off and took one last look in the mirror before wrapped the towel around my waist. I walk back to the room and see Mia sleeping again, her arms under the pillows. She looked so peaceful.
I found my backpack and grabbed a fresh pair of clothes. God, I only have one more pair. I need to find a way to wash these on the go. I put on a black shirt and jeans and crawl back on the bed.
I was drifting off to sleep until I heard a noise. A door being open? Oh god was it the police? I was in no position to fight. I was still weak and my flashes seemed like they'd stay for a while. I slowly sit up and look at Mia. I can't have her sleep through this one. Since I'm not strong, and something goes wrong, I'm going to need her help and she can't provide that if she's sleeping.
I gently rock her and lean close to her ear, "Mia wake up. Wake up someone's here, quick."
"Huh?" she mumbled lifting her head.
"Hush, listen."
We are both silent as the door shut and multiple footsteps were heard. I looked out the window but there were no flashing lights.
Mia sits up more and rubs her face, looking at the doorway. Suddenly, a faint light is seen coming from the living room.
Didn't Mia say people lived here? I slowly got up and creeped to the doorway, looking down the hall. I heard soft voices but couldn't make out what they were saying. Suddenly, Mia came up to me and looked down the hall too. She then looked at me.
