New state.
New Town.
New House.
New School.
New Friends.
Dallas.
The third biggest town in Texas. I have always wanted to move to a country town. Only problem is that I wanted to move to a small country town. Not one of the biggest towns in the state. However, I did love the old wooden Victorian house I was staring at. My new house.
“Do you like it?” My mother asked me, coming up behind me, making me jump. I turned around and looked at her. She had her naturally long, straight brown hair pulled back into a pony tail on top of her head; she was wearing grey sweat pants with an oversized jumper, which I was guessing was my fathers. And for the first time in a long time, she was sporting a big smile.
“Do I like it? Ma, I love it!” I squealed. Jumping up and down, like a 5 year old child would on Christmas. It had a beautiful garden and a footpath leading up to the porch. I could hear little footsteps coming up behind us and before I knew it my 9 year old brother, Dean, pushed past me, with our German Shepherd, Oli, not to far behind him.
“Is that your last box babe?” Mum asked me, eyeing my box. We had been moving our things into the house for the past three hours now and we were all getting tired. Luckily for me, this was in fact my last box.
“Yeah, but if you don’t mind, I’m actually not going to set up the rest of my room until later.” I informed her, walking up the stairs, her not too far behind me.
“Yeah, that’s fine. I was actually going to suggest that you take Dean shopping. The shops are only about a 10 minute drive away and he would love that.” She said, I’m pretty sure that she was hinting at me that she wanted some alone time. So I smiled and nodded my head at her.
I walked up the stairs to the second floor of the house, walking down the hallway, admiring the photos that mum had already managed to hang on the walls. I opened the door at the very end of the hallway. My room. It wasn’t too small and it wasn’t too big, it was just right. Enough space to have my bed, 2 cabinets, my bookshelf, television and a loveseat at the end of my bed. The walls were blue and white, just like the rest of the house. To the left of my room were two doors. One led into a bathroom and the other into a walk in closet. The bathroom had a shower, bath, sink, toilet and counters wide enough to sit on. I had two windows in my room. One window faced to the side of our house, you could only just make out the house next to us, thanks to the trees in the way. The other window faced to the front of the house, it had a window seat, which I can just see myself using almost all the time.
“Hunter! Hunter! Can we go yet? Can we go?” Dean came running into my room, squealing at me. Well, he seems pretty excited.
“Sure, just let me get decent clothes on.” I told him, shooing him out of my room. He laughed at me and made is way out of my room as I headed over to my closet.
I decided to wear my green skinny jeans, black ankle boots, an Eiffel tower singlet and an oversized black jumper, with a skull on the front. As I was standing in front of my mirror pulling my thick, long, curly bright red hair up into a bun, I heard a group of motor bikes pull up at the front of my house. Me, being curious, walked over to the front window and saw that the motor bikes were actually parked across the road and there were about 4 teenage boys standing there.
I turned around, grabbed my purse and car keys and headed downstairs to get Dean.
“Alright, come on Dean! Let’s go!” I called out to him, not knowing where he was. 2 seconds later he was running out the front door. “Okay, we’ll be back later Ma!” I called out, before shutting the door and turning around. Only to have a dog jump up on me. It took me by complete surprise. Once the dog got down, I had to regain my balance, before bending down and patting the dog.
“Hi there …. It!” I said, not knowing whether it was a boy or a girl. I leaned closer to it, rubbing behind its ear. All was well until it decided to lick my face. I jumped back, standing up. “Blegh! You were cute, until you decided to lick me!” I exclaimed, pointing at the dog.
“Dargo! Come here boy!” one of the teenage boys across the road called out. I hadn’t even noticed the boys standing out the front of the house across the road. It was pretty stupid of me, considering that I had just seen them like 5 minutes ago from my bedroom window.
The dog refused to move, causing the boy that called out to walk across the road. He was tall, probably about 6’7 feet, that’s like almost a whole foot bigger than me. He had dark brown, spiky hair, big build, and good arm muscles. He was wearing a pair of khakis shorts and a black wife beater. To say he looked good would be an understatement.
As he got closer, I noticed that he had nice green eyes, high cheekbones, straight nose and a better tan than me. How shame?
“Hi, sorry about my dog, he’s not usually like this; I’m Dominic by the way.” The boy introduced himself, grabbing the dog by its’ fur around its’ neck.
“Hey, I’m Hunter, and it’s all good, no harm done.” I told him, watching him calm the dog down. Just as it seemed that Dominic got the dog to comply, Dean ran past pretending to be an airplane, causing the dog to run after him. Dominic sighed, running his hand through his brown hair, watching the dog. “It’s a cute dog.” I admitted, looking at him.
“Yeah, he’s alright. You’re new here right?” He asked me, now looking back at me, giving me one of the most gorgeous smiles I have ever seen. “It’s just that I have never seen you around before, that’s all.” He continued when I kept silent.
“Oh, right, uhm, yeah, we’ve just moved here from California” I explained, shaking my head, bringing me back out of my day dream.
“Oh yeah, so ar-“
“HUNTER! Help me! Make the dog go away!” My little brother ran behind me screaming, tears streaming down his face, interrupting Dominic. His dog came barrelling around the corner, barking its head off. I shot Dimitri a look of concern, but he didn’t see me, seeing as he was too busy watching his dog.
Just as his dog went to run around me Dominic took a step toward it and grab the dog by its neck, he bent down and gave him a light slap on the top of his head, making the dog stop barking instantly.
“Well, I’m really sorry about my dog, I should be getting him home now; it was nice meeting you today.” He said politely, standing back up and nodding at me.
“It’s fine, nice meeting you too” I replied, giving him a huge smile.
He turned around and started walking back to the house across the road, with his dog close behind him. “Oh, will I see you at school tomorrow?” He asked, as he reached the end of the footpath, turning around to look at me.
“Uh, maybe …” I replied, sending him a dazzling smile, well at least, I tried to. I don’t know if I succeeded. He nodded his head, turned around and continued to walk to the house.
I turned around to Dean, who had stopped crying now, and was taking deep breaths. I pulled him into me, giving him a tight hug and rubbing his back, comforting him.
“It’s alright baby boy, come on, get in the car and we shall go to the shops and I’ll buy you some new things!” I told him, sounding all cheerfully, trying to get him happy all again. It worked, because he started jumping up and down on the spot like a mad person, before turning around and running to my black Mercedes C Class.
I followed him to the car, unlocking it and climbing into the driver seat, as he slid into the backseat. Pulling out of the driveway and headed towards the shops.
