Chapter 11: My Unknown Supervisor

-Present-

“Are you alright, Miss Samantha? You look like you just saw a ghost”, a voice said, causing me to cease my train of thought.

“Sorry Arthur, I’m fine, just thinking about something”, I said as I turned around him.

He sighed and shook his head, as he asked,” You saw Brendan, didn’t you?” I only nodded, not knowing what else to say.

“Don’t think badly of him, Sam. He had to leave Catania to become the Batman and make sure that none of the districts become too corrupt…”

“We already are corrupt. Every single one of us is corrupt in our own way…”

“That’s not what I meant”, he exclaimed, causing me to become silent. “After the districts were created, the original Batman made a pledge to make sure none of the districts got into wars with each other. Since then, his descendants have taken the pledge to help restore peace. I have to admit, Brendan seems to be a great Batman. Within the last seven years of taking the pledge, he stopped 20 assassinations, 36 groups of people who wanted to rebel against their government, 11 civil wars, and three wars between districts.”

I thought this through before I replied,” Is that why he never came back to Catania? Because of him saving other peoples lives?”

Arthur paused a moment before he put his hand on my uninjured arm and said,” He kept his promise, Samantha. Every few weeks, he would go to Catania and continue his work. Because of having to stop crime, he always had to be hidden in the shadows. But yes; he still looked after you. Each time he wasn’t in Catania, he even made me watch over you. I think he believes that making sure you are safe is more important than being Batman.”

A shy smile began to grow on my face, making me happier to hear that Brendan was still worried about me. As the sound of knocking caused me to stop my train of thought, I turned towards the door to see James leaning against the door frame.

“We’re done packing, Arthur. Is there anything else you think we’re missing”, James asked as he kept his attention towards me.

“A way to get to Condumdria”, I stated as I pointed to my arm. Even though it doesn’t hurt at all, I shouldn’t attempt anything major yet.

Arthur chuckled as he replied,” I already thought of that, Samantha. You can use the tunnel system to get you to Condumdria. You can also use it to get to the other districts.”

James only nodded his head before he said,” That will work, thank you. We’ll leave around 5:45 tonight, so we could at least get some sleep before we go.”

Once he said that, I nodded my head and walked past him to go to my room. As I reached the room and opened the door, I walked over to the bed and plopped myself onto it before curling into a ball underneath the soft, silver blankets.

After five minutes of lying in the warm bed, I heard someone open the door a bit and slide in. Since I was too tired to move, I closed my eyes and pretended to be asleep.

The person quietly walked to the side of my bed, having it so he or she is facing my back, so I can’t see them. After a while of watching me, they patted my head softly and placed something cold into my slightly opened hand.

Once they closed my hand into a fist, they walked towards the door and whispered,” See you soon, Sammy.”

They slid through the door and closed it behind them before I opened my eyes and saw what they cold item in my hand was. In my hand lay a black, palm sized walkie talkie that had a golden bat symbol on it.

I smiled as I slid the walkie talkie under my pillow and closed my eyes again, resulting in me fading from reality.

Awww he still cares about Sammy <3 lol! So after hearing about this, What do you think would happen if James found out about Brendan? *fake gasp* And now with them planning to go to Condumdria, what do you think will happen to the trio?
