I threw my tray in the trash and started walking to the door. Scarlet and Max are somewhere behind me. I didn't mean to leave them, but I needed to get to class a little earlier than usual. The teacher didn't stop me at the door, which is a little weird since the bell rings in like ten minutes. I just pushed the thought aside and kept walking.
I was walking down the hallway and I bumped into someone. I honestly didn't know how I couldn't see them. I guess I was just lost in my mind. "Sorry," I said, seeing who it was. "No, you're fine," Jason said, as he continued walking the other way. I stopped in my tracks. "Wait..."
I turned around and he wasn't there, which was impossible. There's nowhere for him to go at the speed he was walking. I turned back around and kept walking.I passed the library and stopped. Why am I here? I lost my train of thought for some reason. I really need to just go back the cafeteria and wait with everyone else.
"You!"
This caught me off guard but I knew exactly who it was. "What do you want Maya," I asked, turning around to face her. She's walking up to me and she looked pissed. "What the hell is wrong with you!?"
"I could honestly ask you the same thing," I said calmly. She raised an eyebrow at me. "Oh really," she said, grabbing the top of my shirt and lifting both of us in the air."Maya put me down," I said as I tried to loosen her grip. She didn't budge. "What did you do," she lowered her voice. "What?" Now I'm confused. "Don't play dumb. You know exactly what I'm talking about," she said, clutching her other hand. "What do you mean 'what did I do'? If anything, I should be asking you the same question."
She just stared at me and her eyes turned gray. "I'm going to figure you out," she said. "I'm going to figure you out as well," I said, trying to sound intimidating. A smirk formed on her face. "You already have."
"What?" And then she dropped me....
I woke up to a headache. I was covered with about five blankets and I felt hot and cold at the same time. It made me feel sick.
What happened?
"You're up," Scarlet said walking towards me, "we were really worried." I took all the blankets off, but I kept one because it's still cold. "What day is it," I asked, trying to get used to my surroundings. We're at Max's house. "Don't worry, it's still Monday, but you were out for a while, it's almost eight," Max said, walking over.
"I feel like crap. What happened," I asked. They both looked at each other. "You don't remember," Scarlet asked. I shook my head. I honestly don't remember anything after the whole waterfall thing happened.
"Well, you completely froze and then tried to attack Maya," Max said, "your eyes were blue." I was kind of shocked. I mean, I guess she had it coming but even still, I don't see myself actually doing it. "Oh, and Maya has powers apparently," Scarlet says and Max rolls his eyes. "She's really starting to get on my nerves," he said. "She's getting on all of our nerves," Scarlet points out and he agrees.
"Wait, was her power telekinesis," I asked. "We think so. There wasn't really anything specific like a color to relate to it," Scarlet said, "How did you know?"
"I had a dream about it..." For some reason, I don't think I should mention everything that had happened. I don't see why because it wasn't anything that I couldn't share with them. I pushed the thought aside. I've been doing that a lot lately..."Maya was mad at me for some reason, saying that I did something and she lifted me in the air. And Jason was at school but I don't know why. He disappeared," I explained and Max's eyes widened. "Please tell me Jason doesn't have invisibility. We are already dealing with enough," he said and I just shrugged. "I wouldn't know. It's not like I'm psychic or anything," I said.
"Well, it's getting late, we should be heading home now. It's a school night," Scarlet said, starting to stand up. I got up with her and we all headed for the door. "I'll see you guys tomorrow," Max said, standing at the door. Scarlet walked out and I turned to give him a hug. "Thanks for whatever you had to do help me," I said, kinda softly. "Of course. If you need anything, I don't mind helping you," he said. All I could do was smile. "I'll see you tomorrow," I said catching up to Scarlet and he waved goodbye.
We had a casual conversation as we walked down the street. To be honest, we just talk about random stuff. "Oh, I almost forgot," Scarlet just says all of a sudden. She reaches into her bag and takes out a bracelet. "Maya says it'll help control our "powers". We should really come up with a name for them. "Powers" doesn't work for me," she explains. I shook my head in agreement. I was to call them powers, but they don't feel like powers. We'll figure it out.
I took it out of her hand and put it on. It's ice cold, pun both intended and not intended. All these ice puns are getting on my nerves. But I felt myself become warmer. It was nice, but it burned a little considering my temperature before.
I remember Maya telling me that my body temperature lowered almost twenty degrees. Imagine your body temperature being in the seventies. Hypothermia happens when you get below ninety-five...
It's a lot to take in. For all of us. I just hope that we either get used to it or we find a way to fix it.
But in the meantime, let's go ahead and master these elements of ours.
Elements. It has a nice ring to it, don't you think?
-=-=-=-
I hope you guys didn't forget the origin story because I sure didn't. All will come in time.
Also, I've been thinking of a new title for the book. Now that it's more developed, we can think about that now.
I need ideas by the end of the day Tuesday.
Have fun.
