I promise you that I do more research for each chapter I write. That's probably why it takes so long.

I have to be thorough I guess.

Also, this may feel a little rushed so if it sounds all over the place, that's why.

I woke up on a tile floor. I tried to sit up but everything started to spin so I laid back down. My whole body is sore so this isn't helping me at all but I don't really have a choice. My eyes finally adjusted to the light and I see metal walls.

I can feel where the needle hit my leg. It hurt so much that my vision flashed white. I shake the thought off, I can't really do anything about it now.

I try to get up again, this time succeeding. I'm in some sort of cell. It's humming like there's some electric current going through it. The door's made of glass, along with the wall it's in. It's the only thing I can see through.

I saw the Elementals across from me. I can tell that Scarlet and Max are awake, they just haven't noticed me yet. And they're in something different. I can only assume that Liam and Jason are next to me.

I saw movement out of the corner of my eye and look up to see Scarlet. Her mouth is moving but I can't hear a word she's saying. She is, however, pointing to a table close to the wall of whatever room we're in. There's a card on it. I look at the door on my cell and see that it needs a key card to unlock.

"Oooh," I say to myself. Scarlet sees my realization and starts to relax a little. I look at the card, expecting it to move towards me.

But it doesn't.

Confused, I start concentrating. I even put my hand out to see if that helps but nothing's happening. Panic starts to settle in.

"Biofeedback. The concept is quite extraordinary." I silently curse to myself. I know the voice all too well.

"Since you guys don't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, I'll go ahead and explain to you why your supernatural abilities don't work," Alex said, picking up the key card and waving it in my face. I felt a glare form on my face.

"It's used as a way to control some of your body functions, like heart rate or the nerves in which you feel pain. Since I didn't want to connect you three to individual machines, I made these sort of rooms that produces the same "signal". So, long story short, I blocked your brain from allowing you to use your powers as long as your in there. The fact that I actually made it happen, with some help, of course, is unbelievable," he goes on boastfully.  I roll my eyes and lean against the wall. Now that I think about it, I can feel that one connection that isn't there and its the weirdest thing.

"Oh and of course I had to do something special for you guys," he said, directing his attention to Max and Scarlet. He's starting to sound like a kid who's excited about sharing his accomplishments. "You, Scarlet, were fairly simple. All I needed to do to make sure you didn't have enough moisture to pull any stunts. Though, you may feel parched at the moment since the air around does need water. I'm sure the dry mouth and a dry nose aren't that bad," he shrugged and I saw her tense up.

"Actually, now that I think about it, all of you were fairly simple. Max's cell is below freezing, slowing his blood flow down. And Kira's is... let's just say hot enough to the point where she has to keep her body cool. Which is why she is still out cold. Man, I'm on a roll today with the puns. You guys missed it. You see, earlier today-"

"Oh my god Alex, shut up. Okay? Just shut the F up," I said annoyed, almost stumbling over my words. I don't like this brain thing. I can feel it in my head and it's messing me up.

He kinda just looked at me. Stared me down to the point where I could see his eyes change to a darker color brown. "You know Maya," he scoffed at me as he made his way over, "something has gotten into you. I don't know what, but you've changed."

"Well, maybe I had a reason to," I said. "And that is," he shot back. It caught me off guard.

"You. You've changed Alex. I saw it with my own eyes. Ever since you've released the Elementals, you're facade started to fade away. You're intentions started to become clear. I didn't know what they were until Liam showed me-"

"I knew it," he cuts me off, "He did read my mind." I don't know what to do at this point. I can't hear anyone except Alex, so I can assume they can't hear me either.

"Anyway, I looked up to you in the beginning. But now, I can't even say I'm disappointed," I said, trying not to sound too emotional.

Pause.

He sighs. "I'm sorry to hear that Maya. Maybe I should give you a reason to be disappointed." I watched as he walked over to Max's cell and swipes the key on the lock. Then walked over to my side and swipes it twice more. All while having the biggest smirk on his face.

"Wait," I started confused and Liam walks up to my door. "We're sorry Maya. I'm sorry..."

"No, he's not," Alex says nonchalantly. He walks up to him and puts a needle to his neck. "If he wants to live."

Before I let a wave of emotion crash down on me, I search their eyes. They are all hurt. Why? I have no clue. But it's pain.

"I'll find out how to deal with you guys later, but right now, we have work to do," Alex said as he leads the three of them out of the room.

...what just happened?

I look over at Scarlet, but she's got her head buried in her knees. I lean against the wall, feeling light-headed. A single tear falls down my face and I wipe it away.

This is why I don't open up to anyone. Not even to the closest person I know. It's ... stuff like this that I try to avoid. Because now I have weaknesses... I mean, they aren't actually going to go through with this.

Right?
