The weekend went by faster than I thought it would. I camped in my room most of the time, only coming out to eat and to make sure that I'm social enough to not raise suspicion.

I'm learning to control the fire within me. It's a lot harder than you would think. I almost set my bed on fire. I'm surprised the smoke detector hasn't gone off yet. The only thing that has been helping me keep it under control is ice water. I've been taking cold showers and I absolutely hated it. But other than that, when I am in control, I feel like I'm able to do so many things.

And just out of curiosity, I did that one thing from Fantastic Four where Human Torch snaps his fingers and a flame comes out. Of course, it worked since I can basically do whatever I want with it. But you can't blame me for trying.

If any other Marvel fan were given this power, I promise you that would be the first thing they try.

But putting all of that to the side, today's Monday. We're supposed to be meeting Maya in the park at four. I have no idea what's going to happen. Kira does have some idea though. She said it might be like one of those little sessions she has had with her before. Training her to control her powers. That honestly sounds boring but if we can learn a thing or two from her, we could probably learn the rest and go off on our own.

I'm waiting for Kira to call me, telling me that she and Scarlet are making their way up the street so I can meet them. So now, I'm just sitting in my room, which is somewhat smart at the moment. I learned quickly that heat can be trapped in a room when the door's close and that people will notice. My whole room almost caught fire once or twice...
Luckily, Scarlet and Kira were there to not let that happen but I still have to be cautious.

I hear my phone go off and I automatically gather my stuff because I know who it is. "On my way," I said, speaking into the phone once I answer it. "Got it," Kira said and she hangs up.

It's time to go see what Maya wants.

...

We make it to the park. It's a cloudy day but it's not as cold as I thought it would be. All the snow is gone but it's still supposed to be cold. But that could just be me considering I'm producing a lot of heat. We walked around the front side looking for her. When we didn't find her, that's when we started walking down the trail that deeper within the park. And, with time, we finally found her. Standing on an abandoned field looking at her watch.

"The second hand just hit twelve. Four on the dot. I'm impressed," Maya said, looking up to face us. "You could've told us where you were," Kira said. I can already hear the attitude surfacing in her voice. She really doesn't like her and Kira likes everyone. "Where's the fun in that," she asked, putting a smirk on her face. It's like she wants to piss Kira off.

"Anyway," she starts, "thank you for joining me today. Not like you had a choice but I'm glad you came." She starts to walk towards us. "I have been informed that all of you have finally "broken out" and now we need to get serious," she said, staring all of us down. I still don't understand how she found out. We haven't seen her since Thursday and that's when both Scarlet and I got our "powers". I remember Kira mumbling to herself about that. They probably have spy cameras on us or something.

We didn't say anything. "Scarlet." She pointed at her while eyeing me. I have no idea what she's doing or what she wants. "Make it rain," she said walking away and I raised my eyebrows at the request. "I'm sorry but I'm too broke for that," she said and I burst into laughter. Maya rolls her eyes. "You know exactly what I meant. And don't say 'I can't do that'. I just don't want you to use 'one percent of your power'," she said, using air quotes and I flinched.

We watch Scarlet as she stared at her hands. We technically don't know what we're supposed to do with these abilities. Surely, there's some type of concentration we have to tap into to use them. I'm just wondering wha-

My thoughts were interrupted by a literal waterfall falling on top of me. Granted, the water is evaporating before it gets to me but still. "Scarlet," Kira yells and her voice is muffled. "Sorry," she yells back and the water disappears. All that's left is a bunch of steam and an ice tower. I start laughing. "Kira? Are you ok in there," I jokingly ask? She doesn't say anything and I just kept laughing because I know she's annoyed. "Just get me out of here," she said and that's how you can tell that it was thick because I barely heard her.

"Max, give me your hand," Maya said, extending hers out. "What?" Now that was more clear than the last time Kira said anything. I saw a smirk form on Maya's face. I didn't say anything but I hesitantly put my hand out, not putting it in hers. She shrugs it off like it wasn't a problem in the first place. "Okay. You probably know what I'm about to ask you to do," she says and I shake my head. She just rolls her eyes. "I want you to make a fire, but only on your hand. Then you could melt the ice and get your girlfriend out," she says. I just stared at her because she just said that so casually...

I push the thought aside and did what she told me. I lit my hand on fire, and I was kinda proud of it. "Not good enough," I heard Maya say as she looked at her watch. Well, there goes my small moment of joy. "I want your hand to cut through like a knife cuts through soft butter. Make it change color." I thought about this for a moment, seeing that the fire was already orange. I don't know how this would help but I'm not going to ask her any questions because she would probably just yell at me.

It took some time (and energy) but I was able to make the fire blue and melt the ice. It was weird because it kinda just disappeared instead of melting. Kira was out, but she didn't look okay. She says she's fine, but her skin tone and her eyes say otherwise. She's pale and she's freezing. And I could've sworn her eyes were going from brown to blue.

"Kira, are you sure you're ok?" I ask. "Yeah, just lightheaded," she said softly. It looks like she's zoning in and out. I don't know whether to leave her alone or try to warm her up. "Well, that was all I needed today. Here Scarlet," she said, handing her three bracelets and I'm sure they're color-coded. They remind me of the carnations, leading me to think that it was her who sent them. "These should help you control you 'powers'."

Kira suddenly grabbed my arm and I could feel that she's burning. That's how cold she is. "Speaking of," Maya says, eyeing her. Now I'm sure Kira's eyes are blue. "You little..." and she charges at Maya. And Maya just stands there, smirking at her.

As Kira is about to throw a punch, Maya flicks her fingers and she goes flying across the field.  We just stood there in shock.

"She'll be fine but she is out cold," she said, laughing at her own joke and she starts to walk away. "Same time next week."

We walked over to Kira to check on her. Maya's not wrong, the grass is freezing under her.

We have a lot more to worry about now.

It's not like we had enough...
