Part 3.2

I felt myself regaining consciousness and slowly started to open my eyes. There was a light in my face so I couldn't see exactly where I was. I tried to move, but I was strapped down by my arms and legs on an operation table.

I groaned and put my head back. Why do we put up with this? Scarlet says that we need to act like they aren't affecting us. It's easier said than done. I feel like I'm going to cry at the moment.

"My favorite three. Welcome back." I heard a voice from behind me and I automatically knew who it belonged to. "We're the only three, Alex," I said back, annoyed. "I know. That's why you're all my favorite," he said and I can practically hear his huge grin. "What's going on? What's with the whole rendering us unconscious thing," I heard Max ask. At least I know he's awake. And I can only assume Scarlet it too.

"Well, did you guys not know? It's been a year and I wanted to change things up a bit. Happy anniversary by the way," he says. "That was our present," Scarlet asked as a joke, but I could tell she was upset. "Oh no, of course not. I have so much more for you guys today. I honestly hope you like them," Alex said. He doesn't usually act like this and that's how you know something's going to happen. Last time I remember this behavior it was a year ago.

"Speaking of," he continued, "this year, I'm going to be focusing on a project that I've been working on for a while. And you guys are going to test it." Why am I not surprised? "For this to work out properly, you'll need to be supervised so nothing goes wrong. And that's where Maya comes in." Through the light, I can see her come up to his side. This little...

"Anything she says goes. She's in charge," Alex said, changing his whole tone. Now I know that he is not playing. "She goes to your school, but you are not allowed to make contact with her in any way unless she talks to you. Understand?" I nod my head. He's dragging and I want to get off this table. "Just get to the point already Alex. You're stalling," Scarlet said.

"If you say so," Alex said and he snaps his fingers. All of a sudden, I feel someone grab my arm and I almost screamed. "This will be the last time I'm seeing you till next month," Alex started, "if Maya had not taken this position, you would be here next week, so you should be thanking her." I don't know what it was, but I've grown a hatred for this girl. Maybe it was the encounter in the car, maybe it was the fact that she acts nothing like she does at school. But either way, I going to have to keep a close eye on her.

I see someone out of the corner of my eye holding a syringe. I swear it was glowing an eerie blue color. "This project will go on for an indefinite amount of time. This will also affect you for the rest of your life unless I decide to change that. After this injection, you will lose consciousness pretty quickly and that would be it. I'm glad that you guys put up with everything we've done in the past year. You're the best," Alex says nonchalantly and he leaves the room with Maya behind him.

The guy holding my arm moves his hands to where I can't move it and the middle is exposed. Then the syringe is basically jabbed into my vein. It hurt so much but I really didn't want them to know that. A single tear fell down my face. It was weird though because it felt like it was burning, but it gave me chills because it was cold to the touch.

That's the last thing I remember.

...

I woke up on Scarlet's floor, where we were sleeping the night before. I honestly don't know how I got here but it feels ten times better than where I was before. "Hey you're awake," I heard Scarlet say. "I'm I," I ask, rolling over to face her, "What time is it?"
"It's almost four," Max says from behind her. I set myself up, almost falling back down because of my arm. I look at it in pain. "That didn't go as expected at all," I said, seeing the bandage wrapped around it. "They said to take it off at five. I don't know why they tell me everything to convey to you guys. It's like I'm in charge or something," she said as she walked away. "Anyway, we're getting breakfast at nine and we'll start working there," Max said, walking over to help me up. "Thanks. At the café, right," I asked. "Yeah. I'm probably just going to sleep till then, to be honest with you," he said. "I don't blame you. I'm probably going to do the same," I said heading to the kitchen.

"So nothing has happened to you guys yet, right," I asked him as I opened the fridge to get a water bottle. "Nothing so far, which is good and bad at the same time. Did you see the color of that needle?"
"Yeah, I promise you it was glowing blue," I said, starting to examine my arm. "Blue? Yours was blue? Because mine was red," he said. I finally close the fridge. "Well, that's weird." I felt that the water was colder than I would've thought. "Oh, it's frozen. The refrigerator must be colder than it should be," I said, placing it on the table for later.

Everyone went back to sleep and I stayed up so I could take the bandage off. The pressure was becoming painful. Nothing seemed wrong but I know something happened. I didn't want to think about it, so I went back to bed.

...

"Are you guys cold," I ask out of curiosity. We just got to the café and we're starving. "I like how you ask us that when we just got out of the snow," Scarlet said, wrapping herself in her jacket. "I was just wondering, I'm not cold at all, but I am at the same time for some reason," I said, debating on whether I should take some of these layers off or not. "Me either. If anything, I want to go back outside. It got hot too quickly," Max says.

Blake comes over with our drinks. "You guys stay as long as you want. I know how annoying these online days can be," he says with a smile. "Thanks, Blake," Scarlet said. I took my cup, without thinking about how hot it might be. But to my surprise, it wasn't hot at all. I just looked at it confused.

"Guys..." They looked up from their computers as I took a napkin and flipped my cup over it. "Kira what are you doing," Max asked, concerned as to what I was doing. "It won't spill," I said. I moved the cup up and there sat a block of chocolate ice. No one said anything. I quickly put it back in the cup before anyone saw it. "What's wrong with me?"  I froze it somehow?... What if I froze that water bottle also...

Blake suddenly walks over and I act like I have been looking at my computer. "Scarlet, I think you have an admirer," he smirked and place a yogurt parfait in front of her. "Oh? That's interesting," I smirked. I'll allow this to distract me from whatever is going on at the moment. "It is. I think his name was Jason. He's a regular here so maybe you'll see him again," Blake said as he walks away.

"So, secret admirer," Max says in a way that he wanted her to say something. She lets out a nervous chuckle. "Listen, we need to get our work done. We'll talk about it later," she says as she takes the yogurt.

As if our life isn't interesting enough, a Jason is introduced.

I don't think our life is coming to a standstill anytime soon...
