*Literally a chapter in Sam's perspective*

We got home, Leah went to her house and I went straight to my room after unloading all of our bags. I still didn't want to look at Josh, honestly. No, I didn't want Leah to get hurt by Josh but I also l recently came to the realization that I loved her, which made my life incredibly complicated. I had always thought she was beautiful but within the last couple of years she's grown into a gorgeous woman and she was the best friend I could ask for. I thought I could ignore it until it just went away and then we hired her, my choice, of course. Now I'll be around her all the time and I'll have to suffer through her and Josh's relationship. I don't know if it's selfish but I have to talk to her tonight.

Hey, can we meet for coffee or something in a bit? I still feel like we need to talk.

Kaz ✌🏻🌻
Sure, bud. I'm going to take a nap and a hot bath, want to just meet for dinner?

Sounds good, pick you up at 7?

Kaz ✌🏻🌻
Sure thing, babe, see you then!

I drove to Leah's house to pick her up and gave a honk to let her know I was there... charming, I thought, a great way to let your best friend know you love her. I rolled my eyes and laid my head back on the head rest. I saw the door open and she walked out. She was the most beautiful creature I'd ever seen. Her hair was down, just grazing the middle of her back, she was wearing my blues fest tee shirt, with her dads old Levi's denim jacket over it, black high waisted skinny jeans and Tevas. She couldn't have been trying less and she still looked incredible. "Hey Sammy Cakes" Leah said squeezing my hand as she settled into the passenger seat. "Hey Little Kaz, want to go to Tiffany's?" It was the only place that would stay open late enough for us to get a few drinks.
It was a pretty quiet drive but it was only 10 minutes to get into town. I played Taj Mahal to fill the silence. We order some food and a couple of drinks. I was having a hard time figuring out what to talk about. The girl that I was in love with was sleeping with my brother. I excused myself to the bathroom. I slipped back behind the restaurant and pulled out a joint. I just needed to relax, she was my best friend, just tell her how I feel. I lit the joint took a long drag and closed my eyes. I opened my eyes to see Leah standing at the doorway I just came out of "Why are you holding out on me?" "What?" I said "Oh yeah, here." I passed the joint over and she took a long hit, her perfect lips wrapping around it. "Sammy, what's wrong? Is it the Josh thing? Should we go in and talk more?" "No... I mean I guess it's kinda that. Yeah let's just go in, it's just been a long week, glad that we have time alone tonight." My words sounded more devious than I intended, but it was genuine, I was really glad to just be alone for the first time in a long time.
Leah always got giggly when she was high so it made the mood feel much easier than before. We laughed about the old days and I told her some stories from the road that I hadn't told her yet. It was only 9PM and we were fairly tipsy and still a little buzzed from earlier. A lot of people were coming up to me and I had to yet be able to say anything of real substance to Kaz. "Want to go sit on the football field and finish that joint?" She said, reading my mind, she could tell I was feeling weird about everyone coming up, we were home but far more recognized here than anywhere else.
We paid, made a quick escape and drove the short distance to our old school. It felt so silly but that's just who we were when we're together. I grabbed a blanket from the back seat and we headed to the center of the field. Leah laid down on the blanket and put her hands behind her head, she has no idea what she's doing to me. She caught me staring a beat too long and patted the spot beside her "Look at the stars with me, weirdo." I quickly laid down and also put my hands behind my head. I turned my head and she mimicked my movements "Where are your brothers tonight?" I rolled my eyes "They went to some speak easy in Fenton, I bailed to hang with you." My brothers would probably get drunk and sleep with random locals tonight, I couldn't say that to Kaz though, she really seemed in love with Josh and I didn't want to hurt her. I wish she would realize though. I took a deep breath, laying back down and ran both of my hands through my hair. "Um... Ka-Leah, I love you." Leah took my hand and squeezed it "I love you too, Sammy Lamby!" "No..." I sat up "I'm IN love with you..." Leah's jaw dropped and she sat up too in shock. I put my hand behind her neck and kissed her deeply, she didn't pull away.
