Chapter Four: The London Eye

Good morning, sunshine

I hope that you’re well

            Those were the first few lyrics that embraced Denise’s ears. Groaning, she tried to ignore them and attempt to fall asleep again.

Honey, I missed you

Last night when night fell

            Another set of words rang in her ears and this time she recognized the beat. She had heard the song before yet could not put a name on it. She slightly wanted to recall the song’s name but the urge of returning to her dreamland was too strong.

You should know, sunshine

You brighten my day

The world gets so dark, love

When you go away

            “Ugh,” she complained as she shifted without leaving her bed. The song was catchy and made her want to wag her head to the beat. She opened her eyes half way and saw Alex at her bedside with his iPhone facing her. It must have been where the music was coming from.

            “They say absence makes the heart grow fonder,” Alex sang with the melody coming from his own phone, “But I can’t help but wonder…”

If the darkness came tomorrow

Could I keep you in my mind?

Where you rise I gladly follow

Just for the chance

To stand in your light

            “Alright, alright, I’m awake!” she said rather loudly while squinting her eyes as she rubbed them, “God, is this how you guys wake each other up?”

            “Not really. But it’s better than being woken up by shouts and yells, right?” Alex asked as he helped Denise to sit up. Her dark brown hair fell softly behind her back and on her shoulders. Alex smiled at her then returned to turn the music off on his phone, “So, did you like the song? It’s an original of mine.”

            As Denise opened her eyes, the song title finally returned to her mind. The song was called “Good Morning Sunshine”. She had it in her phone along with Alex Day’s other songs like “Forever Yours” “Lady Godiva” “She Walks Right Through Me” and “This Kiss”. She enjoys his music a lot and listens to them often. How could she forget the name of the song earlier? “I love it,” she replied, smiling sweetly at him.

            An incredibly wide smile was then formed on Alex’s face, “Really? Wow, thank you! I really appreciate it!”

             “You’re very welcome,” she answered as she got out of bed, scratching her head, “So, if you don’t mind, I’d like to freshen up a bit before eating breakfast.”

            Alex, after scanning her from head to toe, realized what she meant, “Oh! Right. Sorry.”

            Denise smiled as she watched Alex leave her room. He seems a lot nicer that he is in his videos. Looking down, she realized that she was still wearing what she wore on her way to this house. Suddenly recalling the movie they were watching last night, she realized that she must have fallen asleep before even finishing the film. A question then came into her mind: Who brought her up in her room? She had no idea.

            She walked towards her closet that had a huge full-body mirror. She finally recognized it from one of Phil’s videos where he and Dan had built the cabinet. When she faced herself in the mirror, she couldn’t help but smile. A day had passed since she had moved in and she still couldn’t believe it. She touched the mirror lightly with her hand and sighed. She couldn’t help but wonder what the group’s daily life is like. Fortunately though, she will be around to find out.
