The next day at school, Asher asked if I'd sit with him at lunch. I had meekly nodded yes, and was currently on my way to his table. My anxiety skyrocketed, because his friends were still plenty hostile with me.

When I sat down, only Em seemed happy for me to be there, and my anxiety peaked as inhaled her scent. I still couldn't figure out why it was affecting me negatively, and Cole wasn't any help.

“Hey Warren.” Em said still smiling.

“Hi Em.” I replied. Diana had her arm wrapped around Em's shoulders protectively.

I didn't speak much during lunch, and I could tell it was bothering Asher, but being surrounded by wolves put me on edge. Including Asher, there were seven wolves. Diana was the only human sitting at the table.

Asher growled at the table full of people, which made me almost bolt, but Asher quickly grabbed my hand. “ Guys, this is my mate, can we stop treating him like he killed someone?”

A couple of people murmured ‘yeah’ while others begrudgingly nodded.

“So,” one of the guys, Daniel, paused before continuing, “why did you ignore Asher?”

“I-uh,” I stammered and flush in embarrassment.

“Daniel!” Em scolded.

“No, I want to know, are you going to reject him?” he continued. I debated just leaving, it was obvious that this wasn't going well.

“Daniel, shut up.” Asher said through clenched teeth.

“Why? If he doesn't want you, why the charades?” he taunted.

Asher's eyes turned yellowish orange, and brought forth unwanted memories. I ran out of the cafeteria, and locked myself into a bathroom stall as anxiety consumed me. I could see Trent's sickening bright eyes, and Brin's Cheshire smile. I started hyperventilating, and I dug my hands into my hair as my head rested on my knees.

I faintly heard someone burst into the bathroom, which only increased my anxiety. I yelped when the stall door was ripped off its hinges.

Asher kneeled next to me, “Warren, how can I help?” He sounded worried, but I barely registered him even speaking. I launched myself at him, and he held onto me tightly. I buried my face into his shoulder, and breathed in his soothing scent.

Cole took control as I could barely function, and he pulled away from Asher. I didn't have enough energy to concern myself that my eyes changed into the dazzling green of a tiger's before relenting and forming my normal brown.

“Warren?” Asher says questioningly.

“No, I'm Cole. Warren needs to recover, but I'll stay the remaining school day so he doesn't face repercussions.” Cole tells the confused boy.

“What happened? I thought he was dying.” Asher's voice trembled, and I couldn't help but analyze him through Cole’s eyes.

“He went through something without me, I was only able to help with the backlash, but I can't tell you as it isn't my place to tell. He had a panic attack, something he hasn't had in a while, but you triggered it.” Cole moves to leave, but Asher grabs his arm.

“Can you tell him that I'm sorry for whatever I did to cause it?” he begs.

Cole nods, and leaves. I could feel how awkward and uncomfortable Cole felt as he controlled my human skin, but I had retreated and didn't want to come out. I knew it wasn't a fair thing to do to him, as he was in the end just an animal, but I couldn't come back yet. I was still shaken, and especially since I hadn't had an anxiety attack for over a year, I had for the most part only gotten them for the months following the incident.
