Women.
Women who had strong, political views,
But their fathers deemed them "dumb and fat"
And shipped them off to marriage at seventeen.Women who desperately yearned to do art,
And were married to a man
who would beat them,
Until they could only practice in the dark of night.Women who wrote life changing poetry,
And had to send them to universities,
Where they would pretend
as if they wrote them.Women who played music and sang incredibly,
Having their dreams refused,
And being manipulated into marrying a man,
And only being able to play or sing at night.And then the men,
Who have the gall to ask smugly;
"Where were all the great women in history, then?"
While we simply sigh, and move on.-I based this off of a text post I saw earlier, so I guess you could say this isn't mine, but I had a lot of fun putting it into this wording and format. Here's the actual post.
