9. The plan

Clara was inside the ruins, she was sitting leaning against Toothless' waist looking at one of her arrows while Peter and Caspian were disagreed about how to attack the Telmarines

"It's only the matter of time, until Miraz's men and war machines are on their way" Peter said and Caspian looked at him "That means those same men aren't protecting his castle" Peter said, "What do you propose we do, your Majesty?" Reep asked.

Caspian and Peter said something at the same time.

"We need to get ready for it"

"To start planning for...."

Both Caspian and Peter looked at each other, Caspian nodded and Peter continued "Our only hope is to strike them before they strike us" Peter said, "Crazy, no one has taken that castle" Caspian said causing Clara to look up "There's always a first time" Peter said, Clara smiled and looked back at her arrow "We'll have the element of surprise" Trumpkin said "But we have the advantage here" Caspian said.

Susan who sat behind Caspian got up and walked up to him "If we dig in, we could probably hold them off indefinitely" Susan said and Peter looked at her like he didn't like that she agreed with Caspian "I, for one feel safer underground" Trufflehunter said and Peter looked at Caspian "Look. I appreciate what you've done here, but this isn't a fortress. It's a tomb" Peter said, "Yes. And if they're smart, the Telmarines will just wait and starve us out" Edmund said who was sitting behind Peter.

Clara looked at him and smiled before she looked back down "We could collect nuts!" a squirrel said, "Yes! And throw them at the Telmarines" Reep said and looked at the squirrel "Shut up" he said. "I think you know where I stand, sire" Reep said looking at Peter.

Peter turned around and looked at Clara "Clara, what do you think we should to?" he asked, Clara looked up and saw that they were all looking at her, she got up and walked closer to them "Well, I agree with Peter, they don't expect us to attack, and that will give us an advantage" Clara said  "So, what are you suggests we do?" Edmund asked as he got up and walked closer to her "A sneak attack in the night" Clara said. 

"Edmund, Peter, Caspian, Trumpkin, Susan and I will fly in and kill those on watch that night, then we open the gate and we signal to the rest of the army who are waiting just outside the castle, they march in and then we can take the castle" Clara said. 

Edmund smiled and so did Peter "So. We all fly in on your Night Fury and attack the guards?" Peter asked and Clara looked at him before she shook her head.

"No, Toothless can only carry two, the rider and a passenger" Clara said, "Then we can ride another Night Fury" Susan said, "You can't do that, because Toothless is the only Night Fury I have found, he may be last of his kind" Clara said. 

Edmund looked over at Toothless, he felt sad for him. Edmund couldn't think about if he was in Toothless' shoes, that he was the last of the human race, he couldn't bear the thought about losing his family. 

"So, what about your other dragons?" Peter asked and Clara shook her head "No, you will be seen in a few minutes. I only have saved four dragons, and by the way none of them are healthy enough to fly into battle, and if they were, you couldn't use them" Clara said.

Caspian looked at her, "Why? It's easy" Caspian said and Clara looked at him like he was stupid "You haven't try it, and is not easy, a dragon is not a horse, they are intelligent and dangerous creature, a dragon will not let anyone ride or get close to them, first you wins it's loyalty and trust, that will take days, maybe weeks and that's not even the hard part, the hard part is when you have won its loyalty and trust, you have to get on it's back and ride it, you're really get bound with your dragon, when the two of you take on your first fly, is hard to ride a dragon, it took me days maybe weeks I think to learn to ride Toothless properly, and we don't have that long" Clara said before she looked around.

"Training a dragon isn't about your will or theirs, it's about the bond between the two of you, that you both can put aside the violence that defines each of us and be one with that creature" she said before she glanced at them "Communication between dragon and Rider goes both ways. Not only must the dragon follow the Rider's lead, but the Rider must listen to the dragon, as well. Because sometimes, what the dragon is trying to say is what you really need to hear. So as you fly through life, it's good to know who you can trust, and who you can't. I know I can always count on Toothless. And it's important for him to know that, no matter what, he can always count on me" she said and Edmund looked at her with a smile, he think that it was cool that she know so mush

"How do we come in?" Susan asked, "You can take some of my griffin, they can get you in, Edmund and I will take Toothless" Clara said and looked over at Edmund who nodded "Are you sure that you wouldn't be discovered?" Peter asked and Clara nodded "A Night Fury is the unholy offspring of lighting and Death itself, one of the Night Fury's strength is being invisible in the dark, trust me, they will not see us" she said.

Caspian looked at her "So you and Edmund fly in and, what will happen then?" he asked. Clara looked at him and started to tell the plan.

"If the enemies are smart enough, they will surrender, we will have Miraz and the battle will be over before sunrise" Clara said and looked at the others "Are you sure it will work?" Peter asked "If none of us leave our post or suddenly decides to change the plan, it will work" Clara said and the others nodded, "Good, get ready, we will leave at sundown" Clara said "That's what I'm worried about" Lucy said, Peter turned around and looked at Lucy "Sorry?" he asked. "You're all acting like there's only two options, dying here or dying there" Lucy said, "I'm not sure you've been listening Lu" Peter said, but got interrupted by Lucy "No you're not listening, or have you forgotten who really defeated the White Witch, Peter?" Lucy said, Peter looked at her, Clara looked at Lucy then back on Peter "I think we've waited for Aslan long enough" Peter said. Clara looked at Peter and then on Edmund. 

Clara then turned around and walked out of the room, Toothless got up and followed her.
