It was Saturday, the one day we could leave the orphanage grounds and go wherever we wanted. I grabbed my phone and my wallet and set off for the mall. I was only two steps out the door, when I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. It was a message... from Zach! I opened it smiling. Hi Nicky! Wanna hang out today? It read. Sure! I typed back. Meet me by the front gates. Why was my heart fluttering? He was just a boy I met yesterday! Besides, I could never tell him the truth...
Within two minutes he was there. "Hey!" He greeted me. "Hi!" I said smiling. "So... Where do you wanna go?" He asked. "Umm... Do you wanna go for a coffee at Starbucks?" I asked. "Sure." He said.

We were almost to Starbucks, when I heard a distant scream. "Fire! Fire!" I turned around. I looked towards the scream for help, and spotted a teenage girl on the balcony of an apartment building, maybe on the tenth floor. The apartment building was billowing with a very unnatural amount of smoke, and I could hear the distant noise of alarms coming from the inside. "Someone, please help! I'm trapped!" She yelled as she backed up against the railing of her balcony. "Oh my gosh..." I heard Zach mutter under his breath. Hundreds of residents were streaming out of the building and joining the crowd. "Help me! Someone please!" I could see the tears streaking down her face and the terrified look in her eyes.
The fire department will never get here in time. I thought to myself. If you don't help her she is going to die. Are you really going to live with the guilt of knowing you could of saved this girl? Is that the kind of person you are? I looked around. At least five people were filming the scene with there phones, and a news van just pulled up. Great. If you do this you know everyone will know about your secret. Said a voice in the back of my head. I pushed it aside. I was not going to just let someone die. "I'll be back in a second, okay?" I said to Zach. "Umm, okay." He replied. I pushed past the screaming residents, all the way to the front of the crowd. I looked up at the girl, took a deep breath and focused all my will to lift her up. After a few seconds she slowly started to rise. "Aaaaaaahhhh!!!!!" She exclaimed thrashing her arms and legs. The whole crowd started screaming and yelling. I shut my eyes, desperately trying to concentrate. "Quiet!" I yelled out. All of a sudden, the people near me scrambled away. "Oh my God!" I heard one girl whisper covering her mouth. I lifted her over the balcony and started lowering her. I could already feel my powers weakening. As I lowered her, I noticed she was around my age, with blonde hair and green eyes. She would have been very pretty if she wasn't covered in so much soot. With my powers almost drained, I sat the girl down on the pavement, struggling not to collapse from exhaustion. I turned around to meet the faces of the shocked crowd. Now there were at least ten phones pointed at me, undoubtedly filming. I spotted Zach in the midst of the crazy crowd. His expression was not shock but... curiosity? Then, all of a sudden, I heard sirens as five police cars pulled up. "Time to go." I muttered under my breath, as I took off towards the orphanage at super speed.
