"What's your name?"
"Ummm..." Beatrice didn't exactly sound Dauntless. Well, correction. It doesn't sound Dauntless at all. "Hard one?" Says the guy who helped me off the net. "Well...""You can give yourself a new one, but it only happens once, so make it good,"He replies.
"Tris. I'm Tris,"I say, a little shakily. The guy turns around and shouts,
"First Jumper, Tris!"The other Dauntless standing around him echo,
"Tris!" The guy turns back to me, and we stare at each other for a moment. Then he says,
"Welcome to Dauntless." Gosh, he's gorgeous. 'Snap out of it Bea- Tris-,' I tell myself. I stand there akwardly and the guy motions for me to stand with the other Dauntless. I walk over, and some of the people standing around me pat me-well, more like slap me, on the back. A small smile forms on my face. I hear a scream, and the net bounces with the weight of another initiate on it. Soon enough, all the iniates have jumped.
"Dauntless born! You will be training with Lauren. Go!" Handsome boy shouts. A girl with purple highlights in her hair leads a group of pierced, tattooed, down a dark hallway.
"Initiates! Listen up. I am your instructor. My name is Four,"Four says. The girl I met on the train, Chrsitina, smirks.
"Like, the number?"Christina asks.
"Not like the number. Exactly like the number. Is that a problem Candor?"Four says sharply. Christina shakes her head, looking a little less confident than when she had started. Four doesn't acnowledge her, just continues talking.
"Let's get started. Follow me,"Says Four. We all look at each other, but then start walking. Four shows us around; The Pit, Cafeteria, and my personal favorite, (sarcasm) our dorms. Boys and girls in one. Shudder.
"Get changed. Then you'll eat lunch. Hurry,"Four tell us. We all look around.
"Who's first?"Says a Candor- Al. Some of the boys laugh. I feel so uncomftorable right now. The Abnegation reject showing...skin and...stuff, so I really am nervous. I remind myself that I'm Dauntless now and slowly walk over to a bed where Dauntless clothes are laid out. I pull up the bottom of my dress and slip on the jeans. I quickly slip of the dress and put a black shirt on. It's long sleeved and is very low cut. I know that if any of the Abnegation saw me like this, they would totally reject it. But the Dauntless don't, and that's what I am now, so I settle and walk out with Christina, the Candor, Al, and an Erudite, Will. We scan the Cafeteria to look for a seat and Al nods to a table that has four open seats, next to Four. Christina raises her eyebrows, but we all walk over, and somehow I land in the seat next to Four. I glance at him but he just stares straight ahead not paying attention to anyone. I pick up a round piece of meat that Christina says is a hamburger, and take a small bite. I notice all the others have food piled on their plates, and I'm just nibbling on hamburger. Oh well. We talk about random stuff throughout lunch, then soon enough Four shouts,"Lunch is over. Transfers; Training room, five minutes," He shouts. He gets up and walks away. We all scurry around with putting our trays away then walk quickly to the training room. Four is standing in front with his arms crossed. Eric, our other much more intimidating trainer is leaning against the wall eyeing Four. I can feel the tension between them.
"Listen up!" Eric shouts. A few snap their heads over to Eric, and it seems like they didn't even know he was there before. Which maybe they didn't.
"I said listen! The first lesson you learn from us, is to respect us. Now listen up," Eric shouts over all the muttering. That shuts everyone up.
"Now, there are two stages of training. The first, is physical. Push your bodies to the breaking point."
"And if you don't, then we'll break you,"Eric says. Christina nudges me. I look over at her. She raises her eyebrows at me. I grin.
"Candor," Eric says to Chris. It's not much, but Eric has such a harsh tone in his voice that it's enough. Four ignores him.
"The second stage is mental. You'll face your worst fears. Conquer them. Unless they conquer you first of course,"Four tells us.
"How do we face out worst fears?" Will asks.
"Fear landscape. It'll feel real. You'll be put in situations that include your worst fears," Eric explains. That sounds fun...
"We start on stage one right now. We'll train, then you'll fight each other until one of you wins or surrenders,"Four explains.
"Don't be so sure of yourself Four. The rules have changed. No one surrenders now." Four keeps a straight face but looks annoyed at Eric.
"Eventually we rank you. If you below a certain point then we cut you," Eric says. All the transfers look around at each other.
"Huh?" Al asks.
"What happens when we get cut?" Edward asks.
"Well, be factionless, since going home to your families isn't an option," Eric says. I suddenly get very worried. Factionless?
"Why didn't we know this?" Chris asks.
"Why did you need to? You chose the warrior faction. Would you have chosen differently? Showed that you truly are a coward? If you really believe in ordinary acts of bravery, if you are Dauntless it won't matter to you. Just remember, you chose us. Now, we get to choose you.Hey everyone! Sorry for the short chapter! I'm soooo excited for this book... Keep reading...😘
