Chapter Twenty- Six

I am shocked. Uriah is crazy but I thought Marlene loved that craziness. We all do. Uri is one of the happiest people I know, but I can already tell that he's going to be miserable.

"What?" Christina says because Uriah seems to have lost the ability to speak. Marlene looks to the floor.

"I'm sorry," she mutters. She looks up and I can see the tears glistening in her eyes. She lets them drip out.

"Mar! Why?" Uriah stammers. Marlene looks at him with a sad look on her tear streaked face.

"Uriah! Come on! You...you, y... you were flirting with Shauna!" She says. And not for the first time, I'm shocked. Uriah and Shauna? That makes no sense. And I know that Uri loves Marlene. I can tell. He proves it over and over.

"What?!" Uriah screams. Marlene cries harder and hunches over. Chris looks at me and all I can do is stare back at her, wide eyed.

"Mar, I never-" Uriah begins, but Marlene cuts him off.

"Uriah I don't want to hear it! You crushed me! I lo...lov.... loved you so... much! How could you do this to me?"

"Marlene, I didn't! You hear me? I did not flirt with Shauna! I love you too, Mar!" He shouts. By now Marlene is sobbing, and we have the attention of all Dauntless in the Pit.

"I don't care! And didn't you hear me Uriah? I said loved, as in the past and not anymore!" Marlene cries, seeming more angry than sad now.

"Mar!" Uriah yells, because Marlene is running for the doors now. But she keeps going.

"Uriah," I say. But before anyone else can say anything, we're interrupted.

"URIAH!"Zeke yells storming into the Pit.

"I am going to kill you!" He yells to his brother.
