Chapter Twenty- Nine

"What is it? Tell me now!" Zeke screams. A few doctors look in our direction and seem to throw Zeke looks of pity, as if his sadness is going into the air around us so that everyone could feel it.

"Well, the shot caused a lot of blood loss. We were able to control that pretty quickly. We took the bullet out and seiches it all up. He may be a little dazed when he wakes up though. Mostly due to the blood loss." I feel a burst of hope, and happiness spreads through my body.

"Does that mean... that he's okay?" I ask in a small voice, still expecting the worst. It's kind of a dumb question, because the doctor just told us that he'll wake up, but I want to clarify.

"Considering other common conditions, yes. You can all be very thankful." I break out into a smile and Chris and I stand up from the chairs we were in and crush Zeke in a hug. The doctor clears his throat after a minute and we look at him.

"You may see him now if you would like," he says tiredly. We whiz past the doctor and find the room we heard he was being taken to. We burst through the door and are surprised to see Marlene. I for one had totally forgotten about her. I guess she slipped past the doctor as soon as she heard the news, and we were all too observed in other things to notice. Uriah is laying in bed and Marlene has her head on his chest and she's murmuring things I can't understand. Her head shoots up once the door opens though. I notice her tear streaked face and give her a hug. She sniffs and I pull away.

"Uri!" I cry and wrap my arms around him immediately.

"Hey Trissy!" He replies. I pull away and raise my eyebrows at him.

"Uri, you're dead!" I tease.

"Wouldn't it be hard to kill me in a hospital?" He asks. "I guess ya didn't think of that huh?" Good thing you're not in Erudite," He says, mumbling the last part. I slap his leg playfully. He grins as I smirk.

"Uriah!" Christina leaps onto him practically.

"Hey, Chris." They hold onto each other for a minute more and we're in silence, but Zeke interrupts that.

"Uri," he whispers, just loud enough for us to hear. Uriah's eyes brighten at the sound of his brother's voice and he looks at Christina and she smiles pleasantly and walks away to give then some room.

"Zeke!" Uri exclaims. They crush each other in hugs and suddenly they're both crying into each other. I smile. It's only been a little while since they've seen each other, but you can tell how much they love each other.

"You babies!" Chris jokes. We all laugh. I open my mouth to say something, but someone gets there before me.

"Glad to see you made it through. Well, actually, not really." I recognize the voice. It's the voice of the terrible person who shot Uri. I whirl around, and I'm face to face with...
