Okay. I'm confused. Is he talking about my Divergence? I hadn't really thought all that much about it lately. I didn't think anyone knew, so I just had forgotten about it.
"What do you mean?" I ask. I swallow.
"Tris, I know that you're different. I know that you're Divergent," he replies. I try to act dumb.
"Divergent? What's Divergent?" He steps closer to me. I feel my heart start to beat faster.
"Tris, I know that you know what bring Divergent is. I know that you are Divergent." I'm about to ask about what Divergent is again, but he knows, and at this point I have no reason not to trust him. I stay quiet. He steps even closer so that I can feel his breath on my face.
"Tris, I need you to trust me. There's something different about you. And not just your Divergence. You, and me..." He trails off. I nod.
"I know. I... I trust you," I say, believing that I truly do. He smiles. He's gorgeous.
"Good. Now, are you Divergent?"
"Yes," I whisper, now questioning my decision to tell him. Tori told me not to tell anyone. What if this was a mistake? He nods.
"I thought so. Listen, tomorrow during training, we're going to start fear landscapes. Usually, we can only tell if someone is Divergent by watching them in their landscape. I don't know how... But somehow, I could tell. You're different. Special. Amazing," Four says quietly. I blush. "Listen, basically, a fear landscape is where we inject you with a serum that puts you in a simulation, where you face some of your worst fears. Most people won't know that they're in a simulation, but divergent a fight off the serum and are awake. Tris, if Eric or anyone else can tell that you're aware of what's happening in the fear landscape, they'll kill you. You can't let them find out about you." I raise my eyebrows. I had no idea being Divergent was so... dangerous.
"Four, I don't get it. Why do you care what happens to me? Why am I different to you than any other female Divergent?" I ask him. Ge looks around and then clears his throat.
"Tris, I don't know. I don't know why I care about you. But I do. You... You're so strong and brave and determined." I smile, not used to being called strong and brave.
"Thanks," I say simply, not sure if what else to say.
"Just remember what I've told you: Don't let them know you're awake. And don't worry- I'm not going to let them do anything to you."Hey guys!
