Chapter Three

Zamaria

BOOM. BOOM. BOOM.

The sound felt like a dull ache in the back of Zamaria's head. She thought it was a sign of a headache, but the noise continued. Maybe it was a headache due to the lack of sleep she was getting. Or it could be from her wired body dreaming of having Wolfe in bed once more. She tried ignoring the sound and the dull ache, but it never stopped. She then realized it wasn't a headache at all.

Someone was beating on her door like a mad man.

Fear should've been her first instant, but being wakened from a dream so wonderful, only anger surfaced.

"Goddamit!" She huffed in frustration tossing the thin sheet to the side and climbing out of bed.

Zamaria looked over at her clock and saw it was only 11 in the morning, causing her frustrations to grow even more, seeing as how she didn't make it home until 4 hours ago.

"I'm coming damn!" Stomping towards her front door she vowed to beat the hell out of whomever it was that wouldn't allow her to sleep. She swung the door open preparing to give the person a piece of her mind.

"You have some nerve coming here." The strong urge to slam the door in their face was burning through her body. Her grip on the door tightened. If she had superhuman strength the door would be splintered by now.

"Well hey to you too sis." They said pushing past her and entering the apartment.

Zamaria rolled her eyes and closed the door watching as her sister plopped down on her couch. "Jess I'm tired and have no patience for any of your shit today." Closing the door, she stood in front of her sister, arms folded showing her just how welcomed she was.

Jessica waved a freshly manicured hand at her younger sister, ignoring the glare she was receiving.

"Calm your tits Mari. I just stopped by to see how you were after everything." Jess sat back on the couch comfortably as she carefully studied her sister. She might be able to fool everyone but Jess could see straight through her.

At her sister's words, some of her frustrations disappeared, but she was still angry with being pulled from her dreams.

"It's been six months, I'm perfectly fine. Back at work and taking care of myself. I don't need a baby sitter anymore." Zamaria took a seat on the edge of the coffee table facing her sister. The annoyed expression never leaving her face. At the mention of work, Zamaria didn't let the sour face Jessica made go unnoticed.

"Stop treating me like I'm broken. It's over. He doesn't know where I stay." She added.

"You're still stripping?" Jess shook her head giving up on the next statement she wanted to say, opting for the one she's always asked instead. "God, when will you get a real job?"

"I have a real job and again I don't need a babysitter. What are you really doing here?"

Giving up on the conversation all together Jess sat back up. "Fine. Two things. One," She ticked off her index finger. "Manny wants us to visit in two months for some huge party he's throwing."

Already seeing the lie forming behind her sister's eyes, for an excuse to skip out on their brother, she rushed forward. "Told me to tell you it wasn't an option so get your shit together and be there."

Zamaria rolled her eyes and just nodded her head in agreement. "And two?"

The sooner this conversation is over, the sooner she can get back to her bed. She watched as her sister's posture changed to one of defeat, as the light slowly dimmed in her soft brown eyes. This piqued her interest more than the party. Wondering what could possibly kill her sister's mood she suddenly realized and dreaded hearing the answer.
