Chapter Thirty-Five

Zamaria

"Will you wait for me?" his eyes held so much love and fear it hurt her to the core to look into his eyes, but she never looked away.

"I will wait until the end of time for you," she promised.

"Kaeden stop." Zamaria looked down at her son as he began to bang his toy truck on the coffee table. He was a spitting image of his father. If there was ever a sliver of doubt in her mind it was gone the instant she laid eyes on her six pounds and ten ounces son. She could faintly see a small ounce of herself in his features but he was all Greyson.

Her heart hurt thinking about him. She hadn't been able to see him in a year and a half. Not since she went back and gave him the news. That day replayed in her mind like a broken record, the look in his eyes when the news finally sunk into his mind. The way he made love to her again later that night at his house into the early morning the next day.

He had warned her that it wouldn't be safe for her to come back and stay with him. If she was honest with herself, she hadn't wanted to move back. However, the thought of him moving in with her seemed like a better idea. More and more competitors continued to make a move against him, some were going as far as threatening his life. He had told her how one day he was involved in a high-speed chase that ended in gunfire. Luckily, he hadn't lost any men during the time, but they were becoming bold.

She had agreed to go back home, and he promised to join her once he had things controlled there and it was safe for him to come around. Every time he tried to visit something always came up, and she started to lose hope that they would ever be together again. They shared pictures and face-timed one another but it was never the same as having him physically there with her.

When her water broke, he was in the middle of all-out war and it crushed her that the actions of his enemies caused him to miss the birth of his son. He had cried when she has finally gotten to speak to him. He was devastated that things were going the way they were, but he kept promising her he would make a way to come and be with them.

Kaeden was now one and Greyson hadn't been able to make it. The small flame of hope she had was dying fast. Whenever Greyson would call, she made sure to let Kaeden hear his voice so he would know his father was there doing his best. He was so young and hadn't a care in the world, but whenever he heard Greyson's voice his whole face lit up like a Christmas tree. She just hoped he still had a father when he got older.

A hard knock at the front door pulled her from her drowning thoughts.

"Kaden, no," Zamaria said sternly as he banged his truck once more before throwing it on the floor.

She quickly rushed to the door wondering who it was since she knew Jess was out of town with Brody and her father usually call when he's on the way. She didn't bother with the peephole since it was way too tall for her to reach. Even on her tiptoes, she couldn't properly see out of it.

When she opened the door her heart stopped beating and all the air left her body.  Zamaria was frozen in her spot as Greyson stood on her front steps with a wide smile on his face.

He made it. He finally made it.

Sucking in a deep breath she flung herself into his arms clinging to him with all the strength she could muster. Sobs wracked her body as she hugged him tight in fear he would vanish if she let go. She felt his hands roam all over her body. His touch soothing her aching soul and calming her broken heart. He was finally here with her like he promised.
