"Dammit, " you silently cursed while adding more pressure to your seeping wound. "Y/n, let heal you, " Priestess said in a panic. "I'm sorry, but I can't let you do that. You don't need to waste your last spell on me. Not...not after we have come so far." You gulped while gripping your bicep. It soon became difficult to even think straight without feeling nausea slap you in the face."Oh, are you serious?!" Your attention turned to the high elf, who was already steaming in frustration, "You'd honestly rather die than live for your teammates?! Just let her heal you!" You shivered from the loss of blood. "It's just a simple scratch. I just need to stop the bleeding..." You suddenly felt your legs lose what little strength they had left. You began to stagger backward, but Goblin Slayer's large hand, which was firmly placed on your back, kept you from doing so.
"Screw that! You can barely even stand straight without support!"You huffed and glanced at Goblin Slayer. He hadn't spoken ever since you got injured. Was he strategizing? Dwarf Shamen appeared to share the same curiosity. "Hmm, Beard Cutter? What are your thoughts on this?" The armored male seemed startled by the dwarf's question. Though nonetheless, he regained his composure.
"We should use our last spell while we still have it and heal her. We will just have to-" Your hearing suddenly went off tune and your party's words became distant and muffled. Goosebumps began to display across your skin. You tried your best to stay conscious, but you felt yourself slowly slipping away from reality with each passing moment.
"G-guys, " you interrupted their chatter before completely being draped in darkness.Just a quick run-through of what just exactly happened.
You and your party members were given a quest to clear out an abandoned mine filled with goblins. By its appearance, it looked as if it could collapse at any moment, so you had to cast spells and inflict damage much more discretely.
The inside, however, was heavily rigged with traps and goblin scouts. The most obvious disadvantage for your party was there were no layouts of the mine, causing you to investigate each and every corner of the deep tunnels.
Soon afterward, you came across three separate paths. Goblin Slayer's idea was for the party to split into groups of two and see where each tunnel led.
So you were with Lizard Priest, Priestess was with Goblin Slayer, and High Elf Archer was with Dwarf Shamen. While exploring the first tunnel, you and Lizard Priest were ambushed by a gang of scouts, and one managed to impale a fairly deep gash in your arm with its dagger. Fortunately, Lizard Priest came to your rescue and defeated the rest of them.
Though your party was finally reunited at the intersection's exit, the extermination of goblins was yet to be finished with.
An Unknown Amount of Time Later
You awoke in utter discomfort; thick sun rays blinded your vision. You grumbled and sat up,taking your time to investigate your surroundings.
Much to your surprise, you were no longer shivering in the cold stench of the mine, for you were in an actual bed. In your bed, to be precise. How the hell did you get here? You examined your arm. Your tunic sleeve was ripped- (wait a minute you weren't wearing this before?) and a bandage was snuggly wrapped around your bicep. The cloth reeked strongly of ailments.
A faint groan immediately brought your attention to your right. Sitting there nestled in your rocking chair was none other than the infamous Goblin Slayer dozing peacefully.
You stifled a chuckle as you neared towards him. His shoulders slowly rose and fell in a calm manner. Your heart began to thump loudly as you drew closer to his face, for you feared he would waken. You hesitantly brought your hand up and traced your fingers along his helm. You were anxious to see what features hid underneath that helmet of his. "Why must you make me feel this way?" you muttered. "You're awake."
You jolted back immediately, your face steaming hot. 'HOW COULD I BE SO IDIOTIC?!!' You shrieked many different foreign curses in your mind before flashing Goblin Slayer a nervous smile.
"Hey, there! How long have you been awake?" you asked sheepishly. "I just woke up. How are you feeling?"
"I feel a lot better, thank you. I'm guessing you're the one who brought me home?" The man merely nodded. "So, how long was I unconscious?" you asked. "A little over two days. Luckily, your wound was nothing I couldn't handle. You were also running a fever when we got back."You were completely baffled by his words. He's been watching over you all this time? But why? You were absolutely bombarded with questions, but you didn't want to overwhelm the man.
"And the quest?"
"I...I told us to retreat. Priestess was able to stop the bleeding, but I didn't want to risk it." A sudden pang of guilt swelled in your chest. You knew how much these quests meant to Goblin Slayer and you just had to screw it up with your recklessness."I'm sorry. I ruined such an important opportunity for you," you said with tearful eyes. "Don't apologize. It was my decision and even now, I still wouldn't change my mind." Tears slid down your cheeks and you instantly buried your face in your hands.
"I just don't want to seem like a burden to you." Your voice was muffled into your palms. "You will never be a burden to me. You are the strongest person I know and I'll never think any less of you. So there is no need to cry." His kind, soothing words made you feel like jelly as he slowly ran his hand across your back.
Once you finished discarding the remaining dampness under your eyes, you faced Goblin Slayer with a genuine smile. "Thank you, for that. And thank you for taking care of me. I'm not exactly sure what I would do without you."
His breath hitched. "...Yeah." He began to scratch the nape of his neck. "I lied." You suddenly became fearful. "A-about what?"
"I was actually already awake when you-uh." Oh no. If you were still a child, you would've pissed yourself right then and there. You sat there, stiff as a board. With a shaky breath, you said, "Oh, I see. And you heard what I said?" He nodded bashfully.
"I feel the same..."Your cheeks burned tomato red. "You-you what?"
"I said I feel the same, " he said with more confidence. "So you like me, then?"
"For Gods' sake, Y/n, stop asking so many questions," he spoke impatiently as he rose from his chair and flung his helmet across the floor. You gulped. "What are you-" his rough lips suddenly came into contact with yours. Without even fully realizing it, you kissed him back. Your arms were wrapped around his neck, leaving his hands firmly resting on your waist. This was the type of kiss that left your head spinning. With much reluctance, he pulled away. "What did I say about asking questions?" he whispered in your ear. You were completely breathless. Did that just happen? Or were you still running a fever?
"I have to go, but I'll be back later." You frowned slightly, silently pleading for him not to leave so soon. "I understand," you mumbled. The young male sighed and nuzzled your forehead. "It won't take long, I promise." You nodded and watched his figure adjust his helmet over his head and start for the door.
"One last question," you noted before his form completely disappeared. He turned towards you with a small, "Yes?"
"Did you change my clothes?" He suddenly seemed hesitant. "Well, your clothing was saturated in blood so I-uh...I'll see you later." Before you could get another word in, Goblin Slayer was already striding down the hallway.
"No, wait! Come back!"Sorry if Goblin Slayer is ooc in this one. Well, he's pretty ooc in all of these.
