this ones gonna have a smidge of angst sry not sry

i can't believe i'm doing this but it's gonna be a present day a/u

This was one of those nights where you lay awake, tossing and turning and contemplating every fine little detail about life. Exams were in a week, causing nothing but stress and anxiety to overcome your mind. You knew studying would've helped, but you were so petrified of the thought of failing that you desperately attempted to shove the thought of being productive in the back of your mind. It was always there, though. Hollering in your ear, imploring for you to try to make an effort.

You stared at your ceiling in fatigue. "I hate this...," you hissed. You weren't exactly sure why, but your heart was beating a mile a minute. What on earth was there to be excited about?? Maybe it was just leftover stress fueling your adrenaline? Then your mind went from panicking about midterms to thinking about him. Goblin Slayer. You wanted to giggle at your little nickname for him. It was his game server name for the game known as Goblin Quest, which in fact is how you met the guy.

Setting the dorky memory aside, you recalled the first time you actually met him—in real life, I mean. His hair was dyed a metallic silver and surprisingly had natural crimson eyes. At first you assumed that they were contacts, but he told you truthfully that it was a just rare gene passed down from his ancestry.

You smiled when you thought of the fond moments you shared together. Somehow, bringing him into your mind both calmed and flustered you. Your heart was still thumping away, however it wasn't because of stress.

You and Slayer remained close friends several years, now. In fact, you both grew so close that he even asked you to become roommates. You happily abided and the two of you immediately rented an apartment together. To most, you seemed as if you were a couple. Meeting each other on a game server, becoming best friends, living together?? It all made perfect sense, but sadly, you feared you might never be able to confess your feelings.

Suddenly, your body flinched once you heard a disturbing cry come from his bedroom. You sat up in a fright and prepared yourself to hear another one. You winced after a loud thud hit the floor. "C-come on, Y/n. Don't be a-a coward!" you spluttered to yourself as you set your trembling feet onto the floor. You cautiously opened your door, checked down the hallway, and crept to his room.

"H-hey, Slayer? Are you ok?" you whispered into the darkness. Silence rang through your ears. You slowly grabbed the doorknob and twisted it. As you did so, a bright, green light spilled onto your form along with the empty walls. There Slayer was, sitting in his swivel chair; headset on and frantically clicking away at his mouse and keyboard. The intense glow of the computer screen made his features look in disarray. "Slayer?" you called out. No answer.

He told you once that he often used Goblin Quest as some sort of coping mechanism for when he was feeling angry or extremely anxious. You supposed he had a night terror, but you wanted to ask him for yourself. As you slowly approached the man, you stopped dead in your tracks after hearing him sneer in irritation. He was pissed—enraged. But about what? As you drew closer, you noticed the smaller details about his complexion. The way his shaking hands smashed on the keys or how ragged his breathing sounded.

"G-Goblin Slayer." You thought using his full name would help, but it didn't. He slammed his headset down on the desk and snapped, "Shut up, shut up, shut up! Get out of my head, goddammit!!" You whimpered at the abrupt aggression taking over him. He must've heard you, because he looked at you with startled eyes. Immediately after neglecting the game, the screen became laced in crimson and GAME OVER... was written out in bold.

"Y/n...," he breathed. You never realized how miserable he must've been feeling. How long was he dealing with this? Was there more to your roommate that you didn't know yet? A sharp pang bubbled within your chest and then the tears began to fall. You just wanted to know what was going through his mind at that moment.

He stood from his chair and inched closer to you. The indentions of his bare muscles rippled through the dim light in the room. Beads of sweat dropped from his chest. He stood just before you and he let his gaze gaze drop to the floor in guilt. "Did I—did I wake you up?" Honestly, what kind of question was that? "Yeah. I was worried about you," you said, placing a hand on his damp chest. "You can tell me about it, you know. I just want to understand what you're going through." You tried to keep your voice from wavering, but the lump forming in throat kept you from doing so.

The expression on Slayer's face morphed into that of grief. What he did next truly surprised you. He pulled you into a tight embrace and buried his head into the crook of your neck longingly. "...Sl—,"
"My older sister was murdered." Your heart sank.
"W-when I was younger, there was...a break in. My—my sister made me hide in the closet while she tried to protect me," he croaked. His words soon became fast and scrambled. "She fought for the knife. He knocked her out and—." He started shaking and squeezed you harder. "H-he...he...that bastard. He raped my sister."

"Oh my God...," you cried as you quickly wrapped your arms around his body. You both gradually slumped to the ground, not daring to let each other go. The two of you sobbed in each other's embrace. "He raped my fucking sister! And killed her," he roared. You hushed him softly while rubbing his hair. "It's ok, it's ok. I'm here," you whispered. Hearing this caused him to cry harder. "Don't leave me, Y/n. Don't leave me." If you could've hugged that man any harder, you would've.

"I'll never leave you! I promise," you vowed. You then felt his chapped lips press against your neck. You flushed against his body and instantly welcomed the sudden affection. "I love you, Y/n. I love you so much," he sighed heavily. You could've sworn your heart launched from your chest. Your cradled his neck and kissed it as well. "I-I love you too."

Goblin Slayer lifted his tear-stained face and stared at you with an entire flood of emotions overwhelming him. "I really want to kiss you," he admitted. You smiled and caressed his cheek. "Then kiss me." Not a moment delayed and he crashed his lips onto yours. He sucked on your plump lips as he allowed his masculine hands to roam through your hair. He pulled away reluctantly after giving you one last peck. "Can you sleep in my bed tonight?" he asked with longing in his voice.

You grinned sweetly at him and stood up, granting him your hand. You then led him to his bed and laid down on the smooth mattress next to him.

And thus, the two of you spent the rest of the night together, embracing each other's warmth.
