I ran, I'm uncertain for how long, but I traveled as far as my legs could carry me.

my clothes were drenched with grime and sweat, but I paid no attention. It would've been such a gorgeous night if I took the time to stop and view the beautiful scenery of the land, but I had no plans of stopping. Not even if my legs gave out.

Suddenly, at a distance stood a house stranded in a field. I checked over my shoulder to see if I was still being followed. No one. I trudged my way through the tall thicket of grass and made my way towards the road.

Once I found myself at the front door, a panting mess, I began to knock. "H-hello?" I called. "Is anyone home?" No answer. Not knowing what else to do, I dropped down and hugged my knees in fetal position. What was I going to do now? I had no friends, no other relatives, but even if I did, he still would've found me.

"Are you alright?" a strange man asked. I darted my eyes towards the armor-clad knight standing before me on the porch. I hesitantly stood up despite the horrible aching in my legs. "Um... do you think you can h-help me?" He grew stiff for a moment. "Are you in danger?"
I quickly nodded without a doubt. The stranger then began to walk down the porch steps, beckoning for me to follow.

In front of us was a rather small shack. He opened the door and invited me inside. I immediately felt cozy due to the warm light emitting from the lantern, but the room was decorated with maps, weapons, and pieces of armor. This man was obviously an adventurer. I noticed that he brought up two chairs. "Please, sit. You must be tired." I took his polite offer and it felt wonderful to let my body rest from all of that exercise.

"Do you mind explaining to me the situation as of why you're in danger?" he questioned. "You must've ran a long way from home, and littered with bruises." My brows furrowed at the mention of word. "I don't call that place home anymore," I replied bitterly.

"Why is that?—I'm sorry, you must be uncomfortable. You don't have to answer if you don't want to." This guy was very considerate, more considerate than most. I shook my head and said, "No, it's quite alright. I'm the one who came barging at your door, asking for help. And thank you so much for doing that."

The man bowed his head in respect and waited patiently for me to begin. "M-my father is very abusive and overprotective of me. He likes to get inside my head and use threats to prevent me from going outside. Tonight, I... angered him by accident and he told me he'd kill me, so I ran out of the house and kept going until I eventually wound up at your door."

The armored male rested his chin against his gloved knuckles. "Do you not have any friends or relatives to stay with?" he asked. "No. My mother was my last living relative other than my father, and she left me as a child. I don't have any friends either," I admitted. "I see... well then you can stay here for as long as you like—" There was a sudden pounding at the door, startling both of us.

"Hello?! Y/n, are you in there? Answer me!"

My stomach flipped. How did he find me so quickly? I was certain he wasn't following me by the time I reached the house. The man helping me stood from his seat in a flash. "You stay hidden," he warned. I quickly got up. and dashed into a nearby corner which was in one of the door's blind spots.

"How can I help you, sir?"

"Have you seen my daughter? I noticed your light was on, so I thought I'd ask. That silly girl ran off again. Hahaha, kids these day ya' know? What can you do with em'?" That sick bastard!

"I'm sorry, but I haven't seen anyone at this hour. There is another house down the road not too far. She might be there." This guy was gifted at lying. But it would take a lot more than that to convince him.

"Oh really? Then why did I hear her voice just a few minutes ago??" Father was steadily losing his composure. As the older man attempted to step through the door, he was immediately stopped by my protector blocking the entrance with his arm.

"You must be mistaken. There is no girl by that name here." His overall vibe seemed much more venomous. He definitely had no plans of giving me away nor letting Father inside. Father heaved a large sigh and turned his back towards the door.

"Y/n. You know well how pissed I get when you disobey. Your friend here is gonna be in a lot of pain if you don't come out here right now. And if you still don't, I'll make sure I kill you," he hissed. My blood ran cold. He was actually serious! Me and the man exchanged glances and before he could speak a word, he was blown to the floor by my parent's large fist.

"You lying shit! I knew that brat was in here the whole time!" Father's frightening gaze pierced into me as he snatched me from my hiding place. "Nobody's gonna help you now. This is what happens when you run away. I get angry and have to use violence to solve everything," he bellowed.

I fought as hard as I possibly could against his deadly grip, but as much as I struggled, I was still hopeless against him. "We're going home. And then I'll make sure you never see daylight ever again!!"

"No! Please, Father! I-I promise I'll be good! I won't run away again, please" I begged. My hand reached out in desperation. This couldn't be the end. I had so much hope. And yet here I was, being dragged off to the place I called Hell.

Suddenly, my potential savior appeared before us, his helmet gone. Bloodlust lingered in his eyes, making them almost appear to be glowing a bright scarlet. In his right hand was a short double-edged sword. "Let her go. Now." Father chuckled in amusement. "Scary~! What are you gonna do? Poke me?! HAHAHAHAH," he hollered.

"In my eyes you are nothing but a goblin, and all goblins must die."

Father was ready to shout another insult, when he came rushing forth with his sword bared. Before I could full register it, I was shoved into the grass, out of harm's way.

The grass was too tall for me to see anything, but the sound of sharp metal tearing flesh found my ears. It was quiet. The sound of the front door opening caught my attention. "Is everything alright?" asked a woman. "Yes. Go back inside," my friend ordered. The door swung shut, leaving me, him, and a dead body in complete silence.

I heard heavy footsteps advance towards me. Seeing his unscathed face relieved me immensely. He lent me his hand, which I gladly took.

"Are you hurt? I'm sorry I didn't reach you sooner. He hit me pretty hard," he admitted. I didn't bother coming up with a response. Instead, I leapt forward into his arms. I then cried, "Thank you. Thank you so much!" He returned my embrace with ease. "I'm just glad you're ok."

"Of course she can stay with us! Did you really think we would just throw her in the dirt and tell her to scram?" retorted the pink-haired female. She then faced her uncle expectantly. "... I suppose it's alright. As long as she can earn her keep," the elder sighed. It was decided. I couldn't believe I was already accepted into this family only the morning after such a horrible night.

As I was heading up to my new room, I was stopped by the man with no name. "I'd like to talk to you outside for a moment." I happily obliged and followed him out into the field. "My name is Goblin Slayer," he introduced. "Hello Goblin Slayer, my name is Y/n."

This was only the beginning of our beautiful life together. Perhaps fate was truly a real thing after all.

god help me I hate living in the south i'm on the verge of melting
