Sidney had always been a secretive person. He liked to keep his personal life personal. But, it went beyond that. Sidney was just someone who kept to himself, kept his feelings to himself.
And he had feelings for you.
You were Jared McCann's older sister, and when he was traded to the Penguins, you made the trip to Pittsburgh with him. You wanted to make sure he was comfortable and taken care of during the transition. You had done the same when he was traded from Vancouver to Florida.
And you had caught the captain's attention, though you didn't know that yet.
You came to practices and games and other team events and Sid couldn't help but catch some feelings for the soft, kind woman who was so willing to help anyone on the team, a team you barely knew. And you were so beautiful.
But, you were Jared's sister and he was Jared's captain. It wasn't right for him to do anything with his feelings, and he didn't even know if you had any feelings for him. So, Sid did what he did best, he kept his feelings a secret.
And you did have feelings for him, he just didn't know because you, too, kept them a secret. You were Jared's sister and he was the captain, and he was Sidney Crosby. You didn't think that you were ever going to have a chance with him. Which was why you tried to get over your feelings for the Pittsburgh captain.
And that came from the hands of some of the other Penguins players who would flirt with you. It was mostly harmless off hands comments that you would have a flirty comeback for that happened during practice, or were slurred words that came from one too many drinks. Regardless, they made you smile and busied your mind so you didn't have to constantly think about Sidney and his smile and his laugh and his thighs.
And Sid? Sid didn't like the flirting. Not one bit. In the beginning he let it go because it wasn't his place. But, the longer it went on for, the more jealous he got of the other guys and he couldn't help himself from bringing it up with you at the end of practice.
"How many of my guys are you flirting with anyways?" Sidney asked you, skating over to the bench where you were standing after Rusty walked down the tunnel to the locker room, leaving Sid as the only guy on the ice.
"What?" You asked, startled by his confrontation.
Sid shrugged. "I always see you flirting with a different guy, so I'm just wondering how many of them you're flirting with." There was something off about him and his tone, but you couldn't place it.
You shook your head. "It's just some fun and games, it doesn't mean anything. You can ask any of the guys and they'd tell you the same thing."
Sidney's body language changed. "Oh."
You eyed him suspiciously and the mask he had put up slowly crumbled beneath your gaze. "What?" You whispered. "Are you...Are you jealous...?"
Sidney's eyes went wide for a moment and he opened and closed his mouth and your jaw fell in surprise. "Oh my god..."
"I—" He tried, but he didn't know what to even say.
You gave him a soft smile and leaned onto the boards in front of you, towards him. "Why are you jealous?" You asked him softly, trying to suppress all the hope that had bubbled up inside of you in the recent moments.
Sidney sighed. "You're so beautiful and kind and giving and yeah, I am jealous that you're giving all my teammates attention and not me." He whispered.
You swallowed at his words. "What kind of attention do you want me to give you?"
Sid moved closer to you and let his eyes fall down to your lips before he pulled one of his gloves off and reached up to undo his helmet, pulling it off and discarding it onto the ice. Your demeanor immediately changed and you leaned in towards him. Sidney brought his hands up to cup your cheek before leaning in to close the distance, pressing his lips to yours. The kiss was soft and everything you had been hoping for and it was cut off way too soon.
"Oh my god." Jared nearly yelled and you and Sid broke away.
Sidney bent down to collect his helmet and you looked over to your young brother, your wide eyes matching his.
"Jare—" You started, but he cut you off.
"My captain?" He asked and Sid looked over to him, going to open his mouth, but Jared didn't let him speak. "And my sister?"
You and Sidney both went to say something, but Jared waved you both off and walked back down the tunnel muttering to himself, leaving you and Sidney alone once again in silence.
"So," Sid said, turning back towards you after a moment. "Dinner?"
You smiled and nodded. "I would love that."
