Chapter 7

 Maia's POV 

I can't describe how much I don't want Austin there for my appointment for chemo tomorrow. I guess I'm still angry at him when I shouldn't be. He can't fix me so why is he trying so hard to do that? Ugh I can't get him out of my head, I feel like he's raiding my personal space but in reality he's not. It's 11pm and I can't sleep what's so ever so I got up and decided to go for a walk. I got my phone and my headphones before grabbing a hoodie, putting it on stuffing my phone and headphones in the pocket. I got my oxygen sack and walked downstairs. I must have been looking at the floor before walking into something hard. I immediately looked up not wanting it to be Austin. Instead I didn't know the boy standing in front of me. He had blonde hair and he was quite short but he was taller than me. 

"Oh I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bump into you" He said. I looked up. He was wearing black skinny jeans, a white t-shirt and a black leather jacket over the top of it. 

"I-It's alright, Sorry I should have looked at where I was going" I stuttered. 

"Hey, don't worry about it. Hey what are you doing out this late anyway?" He asked. 

"I couldn't sleep. I have a lot on my mind at the moment and it really doesn't help" I answered. 

"Do you wanna talk about it? I know you don't know me but I've just moved here from Ireland so I don't know anyone. I'm Luke by the way" He said. 

"I'm Maia and yeah that would be nice" I said. I took a shaky breath in before I began speaking. "Well a few weeks ago I was diagnosed with lung cancer. My lungs collapsed and now I have to have an oxygen mask to the rest of my life as I can't breath on my own. I stupidly went to a party last night with my ex boyfriend and he cheated on me and I walked in on him and this bimbo girl sucking each other's faces off. My best friend Eve has been amazing though. She also has lung cancer and it's nice to talk to someone who gets it. I'm not saying you don't but she has it so we can relate to each other. I have my first dose of chemo tomorrow and Austin my ex is coming, do you think he should?" I asked him as we walked down the street.

"Well do you still consider him to be a friend?" Luke asked. 

"Yeah, but how do I know he will cheat on me again?" I asked. 

"Well you have to trust him and maybe your relationship will never be the same after he cheated on you but you never know unless you try" He said. 

"True. I don't know if I can trust him again. Before I trusted him loads but now i just don't know..." I said trailing off. 

"Maybe you just have to move on from him and find a new relationship but stay friends with him?" He suggested. 

"Yeah, maybe" I said. 

I was still freezing even though I had a hoodie on. 

"You okay? You look cold, come here" Luke said taking off his jacket and putting it around me. He also put an arm around me. 

"Yeah I'm good thank you" I said, giving him a weak smile. 

"Good" He said. 

"Luke?" I asked, he looked down at me.

"Have you ever lost someone that means so much to you?" I asked. 

"Yeah I have, it's horrible but life goes on and you gotta come out bigger and stronger than you already are" He said. 

"Yeah but what if you've been abused by a family member?" I asked. 

Luke's POV

"What are you doing you piece of shit?" My mum screemed at me.
