Chapter 16

Maia's POV

*The Next Day*

I woke up at 8am. I couldn't sleep. I had the worst sleep ever and I didn't want to wake up Luke or Eve so I just layed in my bed hoping that I could get back to sleep. I got breakfast at 8.30am and Eve said that she was going to come this morning but I didn't know what time so I texted her. 

To Eve:

Hey, what time are you coming to the hospital? xxxx

From Eve:

Hey, about 9.30. Dont miss me too much ;) xxxx

To Eve:

Okay, that will be fine! :) see you then xxxx

She didn't text back after that. 

When I finished breakfast it was 8.45am. I stayed in bed and listened to music on my phone which immediately relaxed me. I didn't get a great sleep last night and the music immediately helped to relax me. My eyes felt droopy so I closed them and fell asleep without realising. 

I woke up to the door beig opened then closed. I sat up and found that Eve had walked into my room. 

"Hey" she said quietly.

"Hey, you okay?" I asked. 

"Yeah, sorry if I woke you up" she said.

"It's fine, I fell asleep, not on purpose obviously"

"Good. How are you holding up?"

"Yeah, I'm really good thank you. I have my chemo tomorrow and I've asked for the tablets. I'm getting there, slowly but surely" 

"Good. I will be in tomorrow when you have your chemo as I wanna help you but I don't know how. So just by being here for you I feel like I'm helping you" 

"You're helping. It sounds weird but having people around really helps. If  you get what I mean?"

"Yeah course I do! Luke's coming later, he texted me to say that he was coming and he was wondering if you wanted your laptop" she asked. 

"Yeah that will be amazing, I really need a distraction anyway" I said and Eve got her phone out of her pocket and texted Luke. "Do you know what time he's coming?" I asked. 

"Nope but I can ask" she said. 

"Yeah please" I said. 

Eve typed something into her phone and it pinged a few seconds later indicating that she got a text. 

"He's coming at 11.30am" she said. I nodded. 

The doctor walked in. with a clipboard and a pen. 

"How are you feeling today?" He said.

"Yeah I'm better, tired but that's because I didn't have a great sleep last night" I said. 

"Good. You have your chemo tablets coming tomorrow" he said.

"Thank you for reminding me. Do you know when I can go home?" I asked. 

"In the next week as we are just keeping an eye on you and seeing how you're going to take the chemo. You've been through it before right?" He said. 

"Yeah I had a dose before I went into a coma but I haven't had any since. How severe is the cancer?" I asked out of interest. 

"It's more severe than last time but we are not going to give up. You still have your life to live. You will have to have a check up every couple of weeks so that we can keep an eye on your improvements." He said.
