Chapter 10

Maia's POV

The rest of the week went by in a bit of a blur. The whole week moulded together as one and I was becoming more and more tired by the second. Well at least my second round of chemo will drain me out so all I can do is sleep. Saturday rolled around and it was time I went for my first round of chemo since the cancer came back. Well the good news is that it hasn't spread but the bad news is that it's still in my lungs and I still have it. After this it won't come back and I'm going to make sure of it!

Luke drove me to the hospital along with Eva as well for some support. I'm glad they're coming with me as they are the two most amazing people I needed in my life right now. I was in the room and they had already given me a dose of chemo so I was good to go when I was ready. I got up a few minutes later and saw Luke and Eva coming towards me.

"Can we go I'm really tired?" I said.

"Yeah of course, we are going now" Eva answered for me.

We walked out of the hospital with mine and Eva's oxygen sacks dragging behind us and Luke walked out slightly behind us.

"I'll drive" Eva said and Luke threw her the keys which she caught perfectly. I climbed into the back and Luke climbed in the other side. I put my oxygen sack down by my feet and laid my head on Luke's lap. He stroked my hair and soon I drifted off to a quiet sleep.

I half woke up by someone lifting me out of the car. I guessed that was Luke so I snuggled closer into his chest.

"Hey pick up her oxygen sack please?" Luke said in a half whisper to Eve I'm guessing.

I got carried upstairs and put on my bed with someone climbing in next to me and put me under the covers. I guessed that was Luke. He put an arm around me and I snuggled into his chest. He kissed me on the forehead before I drifted off asleep again.

I woke up about 2 hours later as I was hungry.

"Luke?" I asked. He turned his head and looked at me taking his eyes off the TV for a second. "I'm hungry" I whined. He climbed out of bed and went downstairs to make me some food.

A few minutes later he came back up with some food on a plate which was on a tray. He made me a tuna and crisp sandwich (sounds weird but it's actually really nice!) which is my favourite. He also put the rest of the crisps on my plate with a glass of water and a green cruchy apple which I also like.

I ate all the food and Luke took my plate, tray and cup back downstairs while I kept watching TV. It was becoming dark and I needed to get out for some fresh air. I wanted to go alone so I had time to think and just be with myself for a little bit. I got up, dragging my oxygen sack behind me, going downstairs and out of the door, grabbing my coat on the way out. I plugged in my iPod and started walking.

I reached a dark alleyway which kind of freaked me out a little bit but nevertheless I walked on. A guy a little bit older than me walked out with a group of friends, I'm assuming. The guy pushed me up against the wall and covered my mouth with his hand. He started taking down his trousers. I tried to get out of the grip but I was too weak. I couldn't breathe and I'm pretty sure that wouldn't help my case. I felt claustrophobic. He carried on taking his trousers off and then he took his top off. I couln't move. I couldn't scream or shout. My phone started ringing and I couldn't even get it. It rang off and they called back again. That might have been Luke starting to get worried about me. The guy started taking my trousers off really slowly and I shivered in discuss. I suddenly heard my name being called and I hoped it was Luke saving me from this horrible person. They shouted my name again and I couldn't reply. My mouth felt dry and I felt like the only thing I could do was scream. I took in a deep breath filling my lungs to the top and I screened as loud as I could. I then heard my name being called louder until he reached me. To my delight it was Luke. He walked over to me and punched the guy that was clinging to me like a limpet.

"Oh my gosh, are you alright?" He said frantically.

"I'm fine, I shouldn't have gone off alone, I'm sorry" I said crossing my arms trying to keep myself warm.

"It's alright babes. You just scared me when you didn't pick up your phone as you usually do. So I came out looking for you" he said.

"Aww thank you, can we get home I'm freezing!" I said.

"Yeah sure, come on"

We walked home which wasn't too far which was good as it was really cold and I couldn't stand being cold. When we got into the house I went up to my room and got ready for bed and got in. Luke got in beside me and we watched a movie. Well I fell asleep watching it.

*The next day*

I got up when my alarm went off. I was allowed to go to school again which is good as I don't like missing school because of my condition. I slid out of bed and walked to my en suite. I tidied myself up and walked back into my room to get changed. I wore skinny jeans a plain long sleeved top and over sized hoody. Luke also got up and dressed. When I was done (he was done before me) we walked downstairs for breakfast.

Ruth was downstairs making breakfast for her and Jay (Jay is Ruth's boyfriend) I picked up a green apple and started eating it.

"You going to eat anything else?" Luke asked me.

"Nope. If I eat healthily my cancer is more lightly to get reduced" I said. He got out cereal, a bowl, a spoon and the milk and started eating the cereal. When we were finished we went to school. Luke drive me and him and Jay drive him and Ruth. Eve was waiting for us when we got to school.

"Hey can I have a lift home after school?" She asked me.

"I don't know, ask Luke he's taking me home too" I suggested.

"Luke can I have a lift home please?" Eve pleaded.

"Yeh sure" he said.

We walked to our lockers and I got out the books I needed for today. We then walked to tutor.

The drone of the teachers voice at the end of the day went on and I just wanted to go home already. I was applying for different colleges next year and to be honest I didn't really know what I wanted to do. When we go to mine. I jumped out the car and said thank you to Luke and bye to Eve.

I walked up to my room, picked the guitar off it's stand and started strumming my fingers over the strings playing 'I'm a mess' by Ed Sheeran. Ed was my idol, he always will be. When I'm sad, happy, annoyed or nervous he would calm me down whatever the situation and it makes it better that I can play his songs! Maybe I can become like him one day? What if I don't go to college? All these questions just kept swirling around in my head but there was one thing that kept me going: you never know if you don't attempt.
