Chapter 14

Luke's POV

I got in my car, picked up Austin on the way to the hospital. For some reason today felt positive; like something was going to happen to Maia compared to the other days which felt negative. Today felt good so far. I picked up Austin from his house and we made our way to the hospital.

We arrived at the hospital 10 minutes later and I took out my guitar from the back of the car and we walked into the hospital.

"Can I go in first please?" I asked Austin, he nodded.

I walked into her room with my guitar in my hand. I took it out of it's case and started playing her favourite song which is I'm a Mess by Ed Sheeran. She didn't wake up so I started playing Hero by Mariah Carey. When I finished the song I packed my guitar up and propped it up on a chair. I took her hand from beside the bed and kissed it and slightly squeezed it.

"Please wake up soon Maia, I can't bare to see you like this. It's been 6 months and I've played for you everyday. I miss you so much and I don't know how long I can carry on seeing you like this. I'm running out of things to say bit please respond in one way or another" I said. I waited for a few seconds. I felt a slight squeeze on my hand and I looked up to her face and saw her eyes slowly open. I started crying with happiness. I wiped the tears away.

"I will go and get a doctor" I squeaked.

I walked out of the room and found the doctor and brought him back in along with Austin.

"Your cancer has got worse so you will have to be back on chemo" the doctor said.

"That's fine, I've had a dose of chemo quite recently but I would like the tablets if that's alright?" She asked the doctor.

"Yeah that's fine" he said and walked out of the room.

"Can I have a minute with Maia please Luke?" Austin asked and I nodded.

Maia's POV

Being in a coma was strange as it's like being asleep but you can hear everything around you. I heard all what Austin said to me and what Luke sang to me. When Austin sang my favourite song I knew I had to find the energy to wake up and then he sang Hero, which is also a really good song. When he held my hand and slightly squeezed it I knew I had to do it back with all the power I had. I squeezed back after a few seconds. I found all the energy just to open my eyes as I was so exhausted. I'm glad I'm awake, I have missed Austin and of course Luke and my family. Austin and Luke walked in with a doctor and Austin said me wanted to talk to me but I suppose that Luke already did.

"Hey how are you doing?" Austin asked me.

"Tired" I whispered.

"Did you hear what I said to you 5 and a half months ago?" He said.

"I heard it all" I whispered.

"Oh sorry" Austin said looking at the floor.

"Don't be, it's not your fault that you have feelings for me" I said.

"I know, I just can't help but feel guilty for how I treated you. You should stay with Luke, he treats you great, better than I could ever treat you. I don't want anything to happen, I don't want to make you chose between us but I wanted you to know that I like you" he said sitting down and taking my hand.

"Thank you, I know you didn't treat me like you should but you looked out for me and you'll always be their for me when I need it. I know we aren't the best of friends but I know you'll stay whatever happens" I whispered.

"It's alright, I'm going to get Luke you probably want to see him more than me" he said and walked out of the room.

A few seconds later Luke walked in.

"Hey babe, how are you doing?" He asked me. He sat on the bed beside me. 

"I'm doing okay I'm having the chemo tablets and hopefully the cancer will go later on in the treatment" I said. 

"Yeah, we all hope for that" he said.

"It'll be fine" I said. 

"How are you doing? I know you've only been awake for about 1.5 hours but I want to look after my princess"  he said. 

"Awww that's the sweetest thing anyone has said to me hunny" I said. 

Lukes POV 

"I better go, I'm hungry and tired. You should try and get some sleep. If you can't sleep, call me and I will come over. I don't care what time it is, I can't have my girl bored from not being able to sleep." I said. I got up off the bed and wrote my number down and left it by her side on the table. I kissed her temple and then my lips found hers. It was a short but slow kiss. After a few seconds we pulled away. 

"I will see you later babes, I love you" I said. 

"Bye, I love you too" she said. 

I walked out of the room and out of the hospital getting into my car to drive home. Austin decided to stay for a bit but I decided not to as I was so tired and hungry.
