Back at the hotel room, Link had his face buried in his hands. Slouching on the bed, his leg was anxiously shaking, constantly sighing. How would he go back to Ganondorf, only to say he couldn't complete this mission? Curious as he was, he was also scared.
Neji slowly walked over to Link, leaning his body to the side. "Link..?" No response. Worried about his friend, Neji sat on the bed next to him. "What are you thinking about?"
Uncovering his face, Link turned towards Neji. "I don't know what to do. I'm at a loss here. I've never failed a mission before. I can't go back empty handed, but... But I don't have the heart to kill her..."
"But you have the heart to love her."
Link's face turned entirely red, covering his face with his hands once more. "I don't love her..."
Raising his eyebrows while looking to the side, Neji just shrugged. "But she's beautiful, right?" No response. He was trying his best to cheer Link up, but to no avail.
"Neji." Speaking in a serious tone, it caught the 14 year old's attention. "If we were to go back to Ganondorf, and if he ends up disowning me or killing me. Would what you do?"
Not being fond of people he cares about dying, Neji looked towards the ground. "What kind of question is that? If he disowns you, I'll just continue to follow you. And if he kills you..." He paused, clenching his hands into fists. "He'll go through something much worse than death."
This was such a rare sight to see. Neji was always cheerful. Seeing the hatred in his eyes, Link had learn a different side to his companion. It was complex, yet simple. This kid truly cared about him, just like he cared about the kid like he was his own brother.
Placing a hand on Neji's head, Link stared out the window. "It's a full moon out."
Neji was staring out the window as well, his eyes wavering. "Why is it red?"
"It's called the blood moon. It appears every once in a while. Whenever it appears, the undead comes to life for one night. I try to avoid going out on those nights if I can."
"Why is that?"
"I don't want to waste my energy fighting something that's already dead."
"Touché."
Link knew that he had to return to the hideout tomorrow. There was just no way that he could go through with this mission. "We should start heading to bed now."
Neji turned to Link. "Will you be ok?"
"I will be. I just have to prepare myself."
Worry lingered in his heart. But he knew that Link was strong. Getting up from the bed, Neji cheerfully smiled. "No matter what happens, I'll be by your side! Friends for life!"
