My light in the darkness

     Kiara spotted her friend Ben sitting under a tree in Central Park. She smiled to herself as she adjusted her back and walked over to Ben.

Ben smiles, "You look beautiful."

Kiara blushed, "Not too bad yourself."

Ben adjusted his shirt, "What this old thing?"

Kiara laughed sitting next to her friend, "Sure is nice out, huh?"

"Very." Ben said looking up at the night sky.

"I know you said you don't like to talk about it, but I just have to ask. Why don't you date anymore?" Kiara asked laying beside Ben.

Ben sighed, "I have to tell you sooner or later so it might as well be now."

Kiara looked at Ben listening intently.

"A few years ago when I was 17, I fell deeply in love with this girl, Katie. We dated for three years. People called us the Cinderella and Prince Charming of our High School. Every minute of every hour I was either with her or talking to her. My friends kept telling me over the years that she was talking to or sleeping with other guys. I was blinded by her love so I never took the things they said into account. When she turned 18, I finally got up enough courage to ask her to marry me. We planned the whole wedding. On our wedding day, Josh told me she was pregnant which only made me want to be with her more to help her raise her baby. I waited for her at the alter..." Ben paused, "but she never showed up. She had been cheating on me with another guy for the past few months. Two months later, they got married. On the way to California for their Honeymoon, that got hit head on by a drunk driver. Katie and her baby didn't make it."

"Ben I'm so sorry." Kiara said consoling her friend.

"I was just scared of getting hurt again." Ben said, "Until you. Kiara you showed me what true love was. You showed me that you cared even when I was a complete dick, you were there for me. You're my light in the darkness. I really like you Kiara."

Kiara smiles, "I really like you too, Benjamin Cook."

Ben took Kiara's hand in his own, "Now let's pay attention to the stars that look like a duck."

Kiara laughed snuggling closer to her best friend.
