(2 years later)
The wind blew gently, carrying with it a soft flurry of glimmering snow and the rambunctious sound of children's laughter.
It was December and the entire landscape appeared to be covered in crisp, white snow. Snowmen dotted the streets in front of homes along with the fresh imprints of snow angels. Some residents even had alternating green and red lights wrapped around their trees despite Christmas being an American holiday.
Everyone walking on the sidewalks was buried in layers upon layers of clothing, many with earmuffs and scarves on. The atmosphere was relatively quiet excluding the honking of cars passing by as two people crossed the street hand in hand.
After half an hour of tranquil strolling, the pair finally reached their destination, stopping in front of a distinctly familiar, glass apartment building.
"We're here," whispered Marina, glancing sideways at the young man standing beside her. His eyes had also been trained on the building in front of them before he broke his gaze away to meet Marina's eyes.
"Yeah, it's been a while since we visited, hasn't it?" replied Jungkook, gently squeezing Marina's hand with a small smile.
It's been two years since the mission that brought Marina to Jungkook and vice versa. JYP and Big Hit had formed a long awaited alliance, finally pushing away their differences to allow a flowering friendship to bloom from the smoldering ashes of scorching hate.
Since both of the companies were growing, they were starting finding it harder to hide their identities so they took up a new cover in the real world. JYP Entertainment and Big Hit Entertainment.
Many groups disbanded due to abrupt change but many decided to go with the change, picking up skills like dancing, singing, and rapping to make it seem more realistic.
Marina had dropped out of Twice shortly after, retiring from that life, and it didn't take long to find a replacement for her. A recruiter managed to scout a Taiwanese girl named Choi Tzuyu to take her place as the new maknae and she seemed to be doing a great job.
BTS disbanded, each member leaving to do different things. Namjoon and Hoseok stayed behind in Bighit to help out the new trainees, each respectively becoming a rapping and dance instructor. Jin and Suga left to join the army, deciding to get it over with since they were used to being on the battlefield. Taehyung went on to become a Kindergarten teacher along with a part-time babysitter and was living with Jimin who was a police officer.
Jungkook and Marina had enough savings from their final paycheck to retire early and still live comfortably, so they moved together to a wealthier suburb further away from the center of Seoul.
With no more missions to worry about, life has fallen into a peaceful routine for the pair and the topic of starting a family has even risen to light a couple of times. Though, of course, not anytime soon as they're both quite young.
There's no point in rushing big decisions like those, after all, one lifetime is too short not to savor all of it. Especially when you're with the very person you want to cherish each and every memory with.
"This brings back memories," whispered Marina, slowing walking forwards to take in the familiar sight of the golden fountains and slumbering trees. The courtyard hadn't changed much besides the new addition of intricately carved marble benches.
Jungkook followed, as his hand was still on hers, leading them to sit down. "Yeah, especially the ones involving you trying to kill me."
Marina's pensive gaze turned into a hard glare as she leveled her boyfriend a harsh look, which only caused him to laugh in response. "You know I-"
She was cut off by Jungkook swiftly swooping down to kiss her, quite literally stealing the words right from her mouth.
The kiss was short but sweet with the couple pulling away momentarily, breathless and blushing. Marina gaped at Jungkook, opening her mouth as if she wanted to say something before closing it once more as if she had decided against it.
"Yeah, but that mission was what brought us together so I'm thankful in an odd way," Jungkook continued, smiling at how he had rendered her speechless.
"Cheesy twerp," muttered Marina in response, crossing her arms to show her feigned disgust at his cliche line.
"Happy 22nd birthday baby girl," Jungkook replied, ignoring her retort as he pulled her into a bone crushing hug.
Marina's cheeks flared red at the nickname, wanting to protest but not getting the chance to as Jungkook covered her mouth with his palm. "DON-asjklifaoisjmf!"
He gently kissed the tip of Marina's nose, pulling back to meet her eyes with a warm, affectionate gaze. "I love you so much and I swear I'd do anything to ensure your safety."
"Jeez, how did I fall for someone who talks like he's the main character of a romance novel?" Questioned Marina jokingly, after prying Jungkook's hand off of her lips. She whispered a quiet 'I love you too' with a curious smile adorning her face. "But seriously though, anything?"
Jungkook nodded in affirmation, planting a tender kiss to her forehead before drawing back slowly. "Anything. Even if it means taking a bullet to the heart."
