A/N: Sorry for posting this late, I was busy over the weekend. Here's Chapter 21 for y'all~
"Kookie! Come here!" called Marina, placing the steaming bowl on the kitchen table.
A low grumble resonated from the living room in response, causing her to smile.
Walking over, Marina gave an empathetic smile at the dead looking young man on the couch.
Jungkook's eyebrows were scrunched up in clear distress and his lips were drawn tight.
"We could've been really good friends had we led different lives," she thought, gently resting her hand on Jungkook's warm forehead. He subconsciously tilted his head up further into her touch, as a tiny smile tugged up his uneven lips.
'Let's go. I made you something to help you with your headache," Marina stated, taking his limp arm and slowly pulling his body up.
Jungkook huffed in response, allowing her to drag him to his kitchen. Upon seeing the bowl he uncharacteristically complained about the presence of vegetables, to which she softly laughed mumbling about how he never cared much about them before.
Leaving him to eat peacefully, she excused herself to go use the bathroom, ducking out of sight.
Glancing at her reflection in the mirror, her eyes darkened with remorse and guilt. "Why... How many more deaths have to happen until the world cures its thirst for never-ending blood? How many more deaths until I can finally be set free from this dark life?"
All of this questions flitted around in her head despite the fact that she already knew the answer. A never ending amount. She would never completely be free.
Back in the kitchen, Jungkook sat there nose twitching from the aroma of the soup.
"Something smells slightly off," he thought, taking another whiff of the soup.
Eyeing the contents of the soup suspiciously, Jungkook dipped the tip of his tongue in the broth.
One lick.
Two licks.
Three-
Stops.
Chokes.
"ACKUBLEH!!!" Jungkook launched into a coughing fit, sputtering weird noises out.
He glared at the soup in disgust, face fixed into an 'I knew it' look before glancing over his shoulder in the direction of the bathroom. "Marina?"
The woman gulped nervously, scared that she had been caught in the act.
Walking back into the kitchen, Marina approached jungkook with an unsure smile, fiddling with her fingers to play a look of innocence.
Jungkook softened slightly at her nervous state, before sighing calmly. "Just how much soy sauce did you use?"
"What??? Oh!"
/Flashback/
"I don't need this anymore and I remembered that you loved to cook," said Jihyo, smiling.
The older girl smiled at the younger, handing a darker amber colored vial. Marina smiled gratefully thanking her in a bow, before pulling her eonni into a hug.
/End of Flashback/
"Right." thought Marina, before mumbling to herself about her stupidity.
Jungkook looked at her suspiciously, asking if she could repeat herself since he couldn't quite catch what she had said. This, of course, startled Marina back to reality and she hastily reassured him that she hadn't said anything of importance.
"It's nothing, haha. I'm sorry, I promise it'll be better next time," Marina smiled at him, inwardly hating the dark underlining in that one sentence that only she could detect.
