Junior Buddy

Taehyung walked nervously, putting one foot in front of the other in repetitive, mechanical movements. His subconscious was doing the walking and the nailbiting; he himself was lost in a world of his own thought. 

He became aware only when the school gates came into his line of vision. He paused.

Quickly, he removed his backpack and unzipped the smallest zipper. Inside the pocket was a piece of paper holding all the most valuable information: his class schedule, locker number, lunch period, and 'junior buddy' name.

He read the name out loud, testing the pronunciation on his tongue.

"Jeon Jungkook," He whispered.

Just then, he nearly jumped out of his skin at the feeling of a tap on his shoulder.

"Woah, hey, calm down," The boy who'd tapped him soothed. "A little skittish, eh? I was like that my first day, too."

Taehyung blushed, smiling and rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly.

"I'm guessing it's not your first year then," He replied.

"Nope, I'm a junior. I'm part of the 'junior buddies' volunteers, actually, which means that I'll be assigned a freshman to show around. I'm guessing you're a freshman, right?"

"Yep. I have a junior buddy but I don't know how in the world I'm going to find him."

"Don't worry, they'll show up at your homeroom class. A little piece of advice to find it; numbers in the one-hundreds are the first floor, two-hundreds are the second floor, and three-hundreds are the third floor."

Taehyung nodded, regarding this as valuable information to keep in mind.

"By the way, what's your name?" The older boy asked as they began walking.

"Kim Taehyung."

"Really, no way! I'm your junior buddy!" He exclaimed.

"Really? You're Jeon Jungkook?"

"That'd be me," Jungkook replied, smiling as he pointing his thumbs at himself. "C'mon, I'll show you around the school before the bell rings. That way when we're supposed to be giving tours during Homeroom I can take you to the cool places rather than all the boring essentials."

"What cool places?"

"You know, like the roof, the haunted staircase, the broken fence people use to get off campus and skip. All the good stuff."

Taehyung laughed and agreed, letting Jungkook lead him onto the campus.

It was months later, and while most freshmen and their junior buddies had grown apart, Taehyung and Jungkook had only grown closer.

"Hey, Taehyung!" Jungkook called from behind him.

Taehyung smiled and turned, waiting for Jungkook to catch up. They were walking to school, and both could feel the electric buzz of excitement.

"Hey, Jungkook. What's up?"

"Well, I was kind of hoping you wanted to skip with me today," Jungkook smiled brightly, rubbing the back of his neck.

Taehyung couldn't help but smile back. The older's smile was undoubtedly irresistible.

"But today's Valentine's day!"

"So?"

Taehyung thought for a moment.

"Yeah, okay. Let's go."
